Internet Explower Platform Preview can be downloaded from http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/
Dell Precision 360 Work Staton XP 32/64 bits
Re: IE9
Direct download linkThe Platform Preview is an early look at the Internet Explorer 9 platform so some features are incomplete, some may change, and some may be added. Microsoft asks that you refrain from providing feedback on features where noted that they are either partially implemented or not available. Microsoft is aware of their condition and will provide updates in future releases. Similarly, for known issues, Microsoft is also aware of their existence and are actively working on them.
Using and setting the home page. The default home page of the Platform Preview is the Internet Explorer 9 Test Drive site, which you can use to see demos for and information about the new Internet Explorer 9 platform. You can press F10 at any time to go to your home page. To change your homepage, right click the Internet Explorer Platform Preview icon in the Start menu and choose Properties. In the Target field on the Shortcut tab add your home page URL to the end of the path.
Developer Tools. The Platform Preview includes built-in Developer Tools. These tools help developers debug and understand the interaction between their sites and the browser. To open the Developer Tools, click the Debug menu and click Developer Tools, or press F12. The status bar indicates when the page generates script errors. You can use the Developer Tools to get more information about and debug script errors.
Create Shortcuts to Common Pages. To simplify navigating quickly to pages you commonly use you can create shortcuts. To do so, copy the Internet Explorer Platform Preview icon on your desktop and paste it to your desired location. Right click the newly created shortcut and click the Properties menu item. Update the Target field on the Shortcut tab to start the Platform Preview with the URL of your choice
Key features of Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview:
• Speed Demos: Take full advantage of your hardware with background compiled javascript
• HTML5 Demos: Deliver rich interoperability with the next generation of Web standards
• Graphics Demos: Create next-generation experiences with GPU-powered HTML5 graphics
Internet Explorer Platform Preview requires Windows 7 (x86 or x64) or Windows Vista SP2 (x86 or x64).
For Vista users, Windows Internet Explorer 8 and DirectX 2D (D2D) must be installed on your system. If you’re not already running Internet Explorer 8, download and install it first. Then install DirectX 2D by installing the Platform Update for Windows Vista, available on Windows Update.

Re: IE9
Just for reference in case anyone wondered before downloading this.. This preview will not replace your currently installed version of IE and you cannot use it with Avant. You can install it separately. And just to be clear this preview is mainly for developers and that is not how IE9 will look like. Its just a way to test the new version of the Trident engine.

Re: IE9
Wonder if Anderson will use this new engine, eh.
Probably why v12 is taking longer than expected.

Re: IE9
I don't think that the preview can even be considered as a beta yet, but knowing Microsoft it shouldn't be too difficult to do - except for us poor fellows still using XP...

Re: IE9
Any version of Avant now and in the foreseeable future will always use the engine of whatever version of IE you have installed. As IE9 will not be available in beta for quite some time it has no effect on development of Avant 12. The preview that was released cannot be used with Avant as it is installed separately from the main install of IE.

Can't we find a way to install it as a replacement. IE9 with the Avant Shell would be THE browser killer.

Re: IE9
It it still no where near ready for full time use. The earliest estimates for release is in 2011 which is almost a year away. IE 9 in it's current form would most certainly not be the browser killer.

Not IE9 but IE9 speed wrapped in Avant is what I was referring to.

Re: IE9
No there is not a way to use IE9 with Avant right now. We probably won't see a beta of IE9 that can be used with Avant until late this year.

Re: IE9
I believe Microsoft is targeting to release IE 9 by late 2010 or early 2011. At most, half a year away as of this post!André wrote:It it still no where near ready for full time use. Re: IE9
Fourth IE Platform Preview has been released.
Absolutely AWESOME improvements in the latest IE9 Preview 4!!!
* ripping accelerated graphics
* improved SVG support (having in-browser SVG support for IE is awesome in itself!)
* integrated Chakra Javascript engine that allows sharing of DOM between browser and Javascript (previously Microsoft JScript engine was separate from IE browser)
* Sunspider Javascript benchmark faster than Safari 5
* Acid3 score of 95/100 !!!
Just don't put too much weight into Microsoft's HTML5 and CSS compliance chart. Microsoft is only highlighting specialized areas where they have high conformance. IE still has to come a long way in HTML5 support. Much better general tests are:
http://www.html5test.com/
http://www.css3.info/selectors-test/
Firefox really needs to catch up now. The eventual FF4 Beta5 that will have the new Mozilla 2 Core and the promised new JaegerMonkey Javascript engine that is supposed to be at least on par with Chrome and Opera better be truly delivered.

The new IE9 Beta is officially out and ready for download:

It is blazing fast and has a beautiful GUI. I'm leaving Avant for now until it uses the IE9 engine.

Re: IE9
Does the beta install separatly to IE8? Avant uses whatever IE engine is installed on the system so if the beta overwrites IE8, Avant should be using it.scubamaster wrote:The new IE9 Beta is officially out and ready for download:

Re: IE9
No, it does not install separately. It overrides IE8 with IE9. I haven't tried using Avant with IE9 but I would be surprised if it works with a completely new engine. But I will try after backing up my system and let you know if it works.

Re: IE9
Well............does Avant run with IE9 or not? I'd like to download the beta, but don't want to give up on Avant.
