Zoom with position:relative bug

Post by mostlypissedoff » Wed Aug 10, 2005 12:46 am

I did a quick search, but couldn't find this mentioned already:

zooming does not zoom anything in a div with style position:relative
I've noticed the bug for a long time, but it wasn't until today that it's bothered me enough to determine the cause
example: http://www.theninhotline.com

Is this something that can ever be fixed?

I have this problem but I'm not sure if it's caused by the "position:relative" or by the terrible coding of the website. I'm leaning toward the former (I don't know why) but anything is possible.

Edit: It is indeed caused by the relative position being set although I don't know why.

ok, i've done a little more fiddling with the code and:

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3c.org/TR/1999/REC-html401-19991224/loose.dtd">
<HTML><BODY>
<DIV style="position:relative">blah blah</DIV>
</BODY></HTML>
is an example of what isn't working
changing the doctype to <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> (quirks mode) makes it work again.

Seems to be something to do with strict or quirks mode, but i wouldn't have expected that to effect AB zooming :/
Is it supposed to [not] work like this?

Changing the DOCTYPE of the webpage isn't a good workaround. The zoom function should happen no matter what the type of the code of the website is. Also, changing the website to quirks mode isn't good practice. You also changed the page from XHTML 1.0 strict to HTML 4.01 Transitional.

*bump*
Looks like i forgot to reply last time:
I didn't change the doctype as a workaround, it was to demonstrate what conditions trigger the bug

Exactly my point, so we're agreed that it's a bug?

This is still a problem for me, and i'm noticing it happening a growing number of websites, including ebay: http://search.ebay.com/avant

Am i the only one that notices this problem? I guess i use zoom too much
