AvantBrowser's not support to display UniCode in the title bar and Window Tabs. :(

I would like this also. This is one of very few things that stops me from using Avant full time. Titles and Favorites just don't display correctly in foreign languages. All look fine on IE and Mozilla...

Do you have your language pack from MS on your sys? Is your language one of the Interfaced mentioned? WE show Chinese, but as we all know there is more than one Chinese language does this apply?
ConVoi is IE okay for you as it appears to be for mgy333?

It may just be a matter of compiling AB with Unicode support. I have built a VB.Net app on top of IE for intranet browsing and it is actually displaying Unicode text without any special programming (or tweaking with the compiler/linker settings) on my part, both in the title bar and in a listbox.
It clearly does not depend on language packs, since the same file name displays correctly in my app and not in AB.

Well, if it's simply matter of compiling the code differently then I really hope it would be done sometimes along the line! :D I am sure the majority of the users don't care about this, but for few that visit foreign sites regularly, it'd definitely a plus.

By the way, I have English Win XP running, but I have Japanese IME installed on my machine, which allows me to read/write Japanese in certain application like browsers, mail apps, and Office suites, but I am not able to see things like menu items in Japanese (I guess that's OS dependent), which is almost never a problem.

Yes. I would love unicode support in the menu bar and favourites too. I now run WinXP with Chinese support but I visit Japanese sites very often. So this would be way more convinient. :o

1 Vote for Unicode!

Apparently, unicoded links are not working in favorites so it'd be much appreciated if a there's a quick fix first. But anyway, Unicode should be supported in any case, I think :)

Is this, then, something that was dropped? It's weird that the person above could do it in version 8.2, but not the current.

Hello,

First off, sorry if this has been discussed before, I've searched but couldn't find anything about it.

I've been using Avant Browser for a few days now and I like it. There's one thing tough that bugs me, in my Links bar, I have several links and folders that are not using the latin alphabet (ie in russian, chinese, japanese...), in Internet Explorer, it was fine, as I have the "Support for far-east languages" installed in my Windows (french edition). But in Avant Browser, they just show up as a bunch of interrogation points. I thought that Avant was built using the IE "engine" (or whatever it's called), maybe I'm wrong, I haven't researched it, but I just thought it odd that it wouldn't work in Avant.

Same thing happens when the <TITLE> tag has text in japanese (or another non-Latin alphabet language), the titlebar displays "????".

Would it be that Avant uses non-Unicode fonts for displaying the favorites, and if that's the problem, can I change it somehow?

Thanks,
A student of languages

Unicode support, when?

Post by palmtree » Fri Oct 01, 2004 11:21 am

I was going to post the same inquiry, the draft shown below. I noticed the initial request of unicode support in Avant was posted on22JAN2004, about 9 months. I just tried the lastest, Avant Browser 9.02 Build 101, 07.28.2004, Avant still cant display browser window title in its original language, Asian languages for example. Is the unicode request being seriously considered? When will it be implemented into the future release? Can I have answers for these? I hope I dont decide on Maxthon just because of this, but my job does require me of lots of readings in Japanese and Chinese...
Avant browser window title text in Chinese and/or Japanese

I just started trying Avant browser and noticed one thing. I browse a lot of web sites in in Chinese and/or Japanese. The Avant browser window title text does display these languages. As the result, it is difficult to tell which is which looking at the tabbed windows. Anyone else has noticed? Is there a fix of this? Does this to do with unicode support of Avant?

Names of Favorites are also garbled? I hate to say but without unicode support, Avant is not very useful to me :( ...

The forum moderators have no control over whats added or when, that is decided by Avant's sole developer, Anderson Che. So your best chance at getting a more definitive answer would be to e-mail the developer.

Unicode is a must.

Maxthon shows Russian and Hebrew in title and tabs perfectly, why not in Avant?

Hi Everybody!
I just started using Avant, and I love it! However, I am also having the unicode issue. I'm WinXP with Japanese IME installed, unicode was fine with IE, but with Avant it displays as ???? in the title bar. As for the rest of the page, unicode displays fine. You can see it in action at my humble site http://www.plasticgiraffe.com.

This is really a great browser and I'm so pleased that I found it. Firefox and IE are such resource hogs, and offer little customization. Even without full unicode support I will stick with Avant! It rocks! Thanks so much!
