Do a " Chrome only" (classic version)
Hi
Im thinking that a lot of bug in utlimates version are due that:
1) When fixing à bug in one render engine, an other bug appears in an other render engine
2) Sources code is too complexe to avoid bugs, then avant browser will crash , crash and again....
I'm thinking that chrome is the most use web browser, because it's the fastest and the most customizable browser.
I don't understand why a a bad browser like Internet explorer have a version, and not chrome ?
-Internet explorer is slow
-There is a lot of bugs
-There is no extension for this browser.
So please , try to do a " classic version" with only chrome engine, i'm sure a lot of bugs could disapears with that, or maybe it will be easier to fix them ?
In my opinion Internet explorer is too "old", it's useless, i'ms sure that nobody is this forum are using the IE engine....
Just one more thing: I'm really tired about bugs who are fixed, and come back, and new bugs...
I love avant browser but i'm tired about "beta version", so why not separate development for most populare engine ?
Of courses my ideas is just an ideas , but i'm sur maybe a lot of people will think the same : IE version only is useless !

Re: Do a " Chrome only" (classic version)
Not true. IE is currently (July 2013) used by 56.61% of users. Firefox has 18.29%, and Chrome has 17.76%. The remaining 7.34% is shared by Safari, Opera, Avant, etc.lolo1 wrote:I'm thinking that chrome is the most use web browser

Not true. Almost all browser comparisons done in 2013 have shown that Firefox is the fastest and most customizable. I can give you several links to reputable tests that show this if you want, but this pretty much sums it up:lolo1 wrote:because it's the fastest and the most customizable browser.
To make an accurate comparison of the degree of customization possible, open a tab with the Firefox engine, go to Tools > Firefox > Options, and go through all the tabs in the Options dialog to see how customizable Firefox is. If that doesn't impress you, while viewing the Firefox-engine tab, type about:config in the Address Bar, and press Enter. Every single entry on that page (there are just under 3000 of them) is a preference setting that can be customized by the user. Add to these the thousands of plugins and extensions available for Firefox and the customization options for many of those, and I doubt very much that the Chrome engine comes anywhere close to being as customizable as the Firefox engine.
It's not fair to say that IE is a "bad browser." Lots of people use it, and lots of people like it. I don't care much for it myself, but at present, it's much less bug-ridden and unstable than the Avant 2013 100+ builds.lolo1 wrote:I don't understand why a a bad browser like Internet explorer have a version, and not chrome ?
The IE engine (Trident) is already installed on every PC running Windows, so the Lite version of Avant is a much smaller download (it doesn't include a rendering engine). A Lite version using the Chrome engine (WebKit) or the Firefox engine (Gecko) would have to include the engine, and would be much larger.
Not true. Download.com (CNET) currently has 990 IE add-ons listed (723 of them are free). http://download.cnet.com/windows/intern ... d-plugins/lolo1 wrote:There is no extension for this browser.
As you said, that's just your opinion. There are definitely users in these forums using IE. Just check the profiles to the right of the posts (at least the ones where people bother to fill them in accurately). http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic ... 13&t=33053 http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic ... 13&t=33057 And don't forget that everyone that uses Avant Lite is using the IE engine.lolo1 wrote:In my opinion Internet explorer is too "old", it's useless, i'ms sure that nobody is this forum are using the IE engine....
I agree with you about this, but for different reasons. In fact, I'd hesitate to say the recent builds even have beta quality. They're actually more like alphas. The only person who knows why there are so many bugs and what the sources of the bugs are is Anderson, and he doesn't talk to us anymore.lolo1 wrote:Just one more thing: I'm really tired about bugs who are fixed, and come back, and new bugs...
I love avant browser but i'm tired about "beta version"
To my knowledge, nobody knows which engine is the most popular in Avant. I doubt that anyone has compiled any statistics on this. However, if users' engine preferences in Avant are similar to the browser usage statistics I quoted above, I doubt very much if Chrome is the most popular engine amongst Avant Ultimate users.lolo1 wrote:why not separate development for most populare engine ?
As far as separating development or having separate versions for each engine, it's obvious that Anderson is already in over his head in terms of having adequate bandwidth (time, energy, and possibly ability) just to handle Avant Ultimate (Avant Lite is just Ultimate without the Firefox and Chrome engines). I don't know whether he doesn't have enough time or if it's just become too complex for him to deal with.

It's not old by any stretch. As for nobody using IE - I do (though I use 3 different shells, and technically use 4 if I include the one I use in my Debian installations), as do thousands of corps and millions of users (though the latter is primarily due to their not knowing/caring about alternates)lolo1 wrote:In my opinion Internet explorer is too "old", it's useless, i'ms sure that nobody is this forum are using the IE engine....

Re: Do a " Chrome only" (classic version)
What is important to me in a browser is the speed loading pages (i dont care about startup time , html5's and other things) , and chrome is the fastest browser loading pages that i have tried .
People with good pc's may not even notice , but the guys with old pc's can see it easily , it runs the pages much faster than firefox .
Loading times :

One of the reasons why i still use\prefer firefox is because firefox use less memory ,
the other day i was using chrome and after have 4 or 5 tabs opened it was using around 1.5 gbs of memory .
Memory usage :

I use Opera though not Opera Next, and in terms of RAM usage, actually see the opposite in real world usage, to those depicted in the graphs. Firefox and Opera use far more memory than IE, and Chrome sits in the middle of the 4 (Opera being the worst offender).

As far as the engines themselves are concerned (in Avant, not the full browsers), Gecko uses a lot less memory than Trident or WebKit for the same set of open tabs, at least on my systems. That's one of the reasons I rarely use the WebKit engine -- it uses at least twice the memory that Gecko uses. Trident isn't quite as bad, but it still uses a lot more memory than Gecko.

Re: Do a " Chrome only" (classic version)
You should see it on my system
(500+ tabs, and a minimum of 1.5GB RAM used, crashes requiring firefox.exe be nuked every 6 hours or so, though Chrome.exe was far worse, and as for Trident - it couldn't handle it (had to switch to Gecko because of it
), that said, Opera has around 20 tabs open and is using 1.7-1.9GB Ram)

Yikes! I don't think I've ever had more than 80 tabs open at one time. Right now, with 50 open tabs, firefox.exe is using a little over 700 MB.

Re: Do a " Chrome only" (classic version)
I use IE8 on a daily basis, and I have quite a few add-ons/plug-ins. When a website don't get along with IE, then I fire up Firefox. I don't know if Avant disabled all the spying in the Chrome engine or not, but either way I wouldn't use it if it was the only option for Avant. Of course this is MY OPINION, not anyone Else's.....MINE!

Re: Do a " Chrome only" (classic version)
Maybe you guys were talking about Firefox, and not the Firefox Renderer in Avant, but here is a normal day for me (only 20 tabs)
http://i.imgur.com/1AfADUh.png
I have no idea how you guys can open 50 tabs and not use >700mb of ram.
I also have no idea why browsers require this much ram these days. I guess it's because the average website is a 1MB download per hit now.

Not surprisingly, the growing size requirements of RAM etc have annoyed me for a few years now - the love of everything flashy/Ajaxy etc always leaves me bemused (prefer the plain old HTML/ASP/PHP with no JS/Flash/Java etc requirements myself)

Hi , i'm thinking that today my request is good:
Microsoft the father of internet explorer is KILLING internet explorer, because internet explorer can't evolve anymore.
I think that's , if Microsoft itself is killing internet explorer it's because it's a good reason.
Trying to keep a death browser alive is like an " artificial respiration ".
So please don't keep Internet Explorer it's useless and your work will not be rewarded in the next version of windows.
I think the best is to continue avant browser and firefox engine for the moments, fix all bugs / crash, and then when windows 10 will be there includes the spartan browser ( name of the futur of internet explorer).
And if you are working on two engine, i'm sure that a lot of bug can be avoid.
Of courses i've understand that internet explorer was one of the most use web browser, but see the reality, internet explorer is death and will re-born to the name of spartan.
Just see that spartan is the "code name", the real name appears to be : Microsoft Edge

Re: Do a " Chrome only" (classic version)
1. It's not being "killed" by any stretch (and not even close to "death"). Edge is a completely new shell with a "from the ground up" engine, yes - but IE will continue (guessing you've not actually tried Edge yet - it's still got a plethora of stuff missing from it (hence it's still being preview, just like the OS its coming with)).
2. Aside from everyone' apparent (untoward) bias and hatred (some deserved, most not) of it, millions of corps and users still use IE, and will continue to do so (IE11 is actually exceptional). It's still going to be getting the usual bug fixes, patches etc - just as every other shell/engine does.
3. There isn't an "Avant browser" engine, never has been. It includes Trident, Gecko and WebKit/WebCore engines, that's all.
Bear in mind, everyone has their favourite, everyone has different requirements. There'll never be a "one size fits all", especially when it comes to shells/engines.
