Something went wrong with this page
I have been getting the following error frequently
“Something went wrong with this page. To continue, please click the [Refresh] button. Or, you can just close this page.”
I could reproduce this issue using following method:
1. Set default rendering engine as Chrome or Firefox
2. Visit 1 or more sites in different tabs in same Avant window
3. Press Control+D simultaneously to add the open sites to bookmark
4. From bookmark window select new folder option
5. Enter any name for the folder
6. Then just wait for 1-2 minutes
7. Cancel bookmark folder creation (press escape)
8. You will immediately see above error on blue screen background
This error does not appear if you select IE or IE-8 as your default-rendering engine
Tried this on:
Laptops: Dell Vostro 1088, HP 6530b
OS: Windows XP+SP3, Windows-7+SP1
IE: 8
Firefox: latest as provided in Avant
Chrome: latest as provided in Avant
Avant Browser: USB version - Avant Browser 2012 (on almost all version)
Observation:
- This error can be seen on any Avant browser which has: xbrowser.exe &/or ybrowser.exe &/or zbrowser.exe
- When above error appears none of the following works from file menu
Save HTML
Save Screen as image
Save current page as image
Save selected region as image

Re: Something went wrong with this page
I am also seeing these frequintly, and the main culprit seems to be ebay for me, but I am using the IE rendering engine. It seems to be an issue with pages running lots of images with flash involved. A thumbnail page is more likely to kill it than an actual item page for example. Once it starts displaying purple pages, it remains unstable until a system restart.
Win 7 64 bit, fully patched, latest flash, latest Java, Latest avant browser build. I7 socket 2011 processor, 32 Gb ram, let me know if anything else would be useful for troubleshooting purposes.

I think there has been issues with Avant and flash on windows 7 in the past. You can do a search in the forum for the answers most likely.piercet wrote:I am also seeing these frequintly, and the main culprit seems to be ebay for me, but I am using the IE rendering engine. The lilac page generally happens when a page hasn't responded for a certain period of time,in this case, avant considers it to be frozen and it will close the process automatically for freeing the browser from non-responding status.piercet wrote:I am also seeing these frequintly, and the main culprit seems to be ebay for me, but I am using the IE rendering engine. Re: Something went wrong with this page
All,
this error can be seen on any website & has got nothing to do flash
(i am using Avant Browser 2012 build 192, 12.7.2012 USB version & flash is not installed)
"The lilac page generally happens when a page hasn't responded for a certain period of time,in this case, avant considers it to be frozen and it will close the process automatically for freeing the browser from non-responding status."
@Jasmine: so how to increase the time period to stay active for longer duration? or can you ask developers to add a built in option for it? as of now inactive time is just about 1-2 minutes!! which is too less
i have seen if you kill xbrowser.exe manually (from taskmanager) the same issue appears

Re: Something went wrong with this page
Hi hao, Jasmine. This is the first time that I've seen such an explanation for the error message. one that I first reported ages ago. These days I always work in Firefox rendering mode, and still get that error occasionally, commonly after I've had Avant open for quite a few hours or even for a day or two or three (usually go into sleep/hibernate mode and don't reboot Windows very often). Because it rarely happens for me I"m not too concerned, but nevertheless ...Jasmine wrote:The lilac page generally happens when a page hasn't responded for a certain period of time,in this case, avant considers it to be frozen and it will close the process automatically for freeing the browser from non-responding status.
I would echo abuser's query, while rephrasing it:
Could an Avant configuration option be designed that would give the user some control on the time-out period? ... I wonder if this would have any beneficial effect anyway, what does the team think?

Re: Something went wrong with this page
Hi Tony,
i have seen you reporting bugs related to one of the earlier version of avant for more or less same issue
i did reproduce that as well. if i am not wrong avant team came up with ybrowser concept from this version onwards:
Avant Browser 2010 Build 131 (Internal Ver No-11.8.0.131) Releae date=16-Mar-11
in this version once installed & when running
-open multiple sites
-make sure ybrowser.exe is listed or can be seen in taskmanager
-go ahead & kill the ybrowser.exe (if there are multiple instances then kill anyone)
-come to browser
-the moment ybrowser.exe is killed you will notice avant becoming grayed out &/or unresponsive
-to resume close avant & restart
-this was a common annoyance in those days
in your case i would say: irrespective of rendering engine the timeout time or time period for inactive session is set too low &/or sleep or hibernate is making this as well which is resulting in this error

Re: Something went wrong with this page
All,
though the reported issue (The lilac page &/or Something went wrong with this page) is fixed in this release:
Avant Browser 2012 build 193, Released 12.10.2012
but still its appearing when i try to save any page using "Save current page as image" option
this can be reproduced using following method:
1. Set default rendering engine as Chrome or Firefox
2. Visit 1 or more sites in different tabs in same Avant window
3. press Shift+Control+A simultaneously to save any webpage as image
4. then a box will appear asking for file name to be saved with
5. just enter any name (keep typing the name & make sure name is lengthy enough - but don't save the page) or dont do
anything {wait for a minute}
6. press escape after about a minutes time
7. in less than a minutes time you will get to see The lilac page &/or Something went wrong with this page
= this doesn't happens with IE rendering
= it has got nothing to do with flash
= this can happen with any website
= this appears even with earlier versions of Avant Ultimate builds
= IRRESPECTIVE OF WHAT RENDERING ENGINE IS SELECTED THIS ERROR COULDNT BE SEEN WITH "SAVE SCREEN AS IMAGE"
(SHIFT+CONTROL+S) OPTION
sorry i forgot to add this point as well in my very first posting

Re: Something went wrong with this page
I just updated to build 193, and I'm still seeing them frequintly. For example, I'll often see them on this page http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid= ... &_from=R40 within a second after the 1 second page load. There isn't really a pause most times, though occasionally I'll know one is impending because of a page scrolling freeze right before the crash. but thats after the entire page has finished loading. My gut instinct is it has to do with the Ebay image system and the way they implemnented it.Jasmine wrote:The lilac page generally happens when a page hasn't responded for a certain period of time,in this case, avant considers it to be frozen and it will close the process automatically for freeing the browser from non-responding status.piercet wrote:I am also seeing these frequintly, and the main culprit seems to be ebay for me, but I am using the IE rendering engine. Could you supervise the cpu and memory usage before this happens? When the lila page occurs, you can check them via the curves recorded in windows task manager>performance. Please show us a screenshot of this tab.piercet wrote:It seems to be an issue with pages running lots of images with flash involved. Re: Something went wrong with this page
Just for the record, I just got the error again with the brand new Build 193, running in Firefox rendering mode. (It doesn't happen frequently, perhaps I should try to have fewer rows of tabs open, but I just let them build up over a number of days, right now about 70 tabs open! ... I leave them open so as to refer back to them later on as I do research and want to compare web pages, etc. I wonder whether having so many tabs open should cause this problem as some sort of stability or cross-tab interaction issue?)

Re: Something went wrong with this page
Firefox supposedly fixed their memory leak problem in version 15 (I think). With that many tabs open and any flash apps running on the pages, you could either be running out of CPU cycles or RAM. What does the task manager have to say about the CPU and RAM with this many tabs open?notestracker wrote:Just for the record, I just got the error again with the brand new Build 193, running in Firefox rendering mode. Re: Something went wrong with this page
Sure can. Here's a bunch of screenshots. they span 2 crashes. I took "pre crash" state, post crash 1 with task manager, and post crash 2 with resource monitor. Also took a shot of the tools menu. Rendering option checked is currently IE9 standard, though it does it with either one, OfficeXP for the skin, and I have open new tabs in foreground checked. Other than that it should be mostly default settings. As you can see from the resource monitor screenshots, I am not running short on resources on any of the 12 cores or the 32 GB of ram...
