[request]Firefox data placement in AB USB version

Post by Dreamer » Tue Nov 29, 2011 2:34 pm

In USB version all data, setting are placed in program folder, in Orca USB also the FF data are placed in program folder, but in the new AB USB version FF data, settings, passwords are placed in:

%appdata%\Mozilla\Avant\Profiles\<ffprofile>.default

...therefore it can't be used as portable version.

All FF data should be placed in the program folder, the best in \profiles\.default\firefox .

AB Ultimate 2012 build 8 USB portable version, FF engine, Windows Vista HP SP2 32 bit.

I still think it's a bug, USB means that I can move it to USB flash disk, use it on any computer and then go elsewhere and use it there too, but currently it's impossible, since some settings are placed on C: drive, incl. passwords, this might be also quite danger.

Anyway, do you know if and when it will be solved?

Hello Tibor,
This problem was already recorded for fixing. We will wait for the developer's final response when or how or whether it can be fixed. :)
Sorry for the delay.

Please provide the following information before reporting problems:
Avant Version; System(also point out it is a 32 or 64-bit OS);IE; Memory Size; CPU Speed;
Optional: Firewall; Graphics Card

For the problems hard to replay, could you add me into your MSN or Skype list if you use either of them? The advantage is that you can let us know the situation in the first place by making some screenshots, sharing your screen or explaining the specific problems more clearly when they happen.

Still not fixed? In build 18 or 108?

I have the same question. Why changes to mozilla firefox are unmovable. It's not right.

I lost the FF settings and all passwords because of this BUG! More here.

I have some old backup, but it doesn't matter, I know all passwords. The problem is that this BUG is still not fixed, the other users might lose even more important data and passwords.

There is no 82% portable, there's just portable and non-portable, therefore I still think this IS a 100% BUG.

So PLEASE...

- move this topic back to bug reports, it IS a bug,
- or remove portable version completely, not working portable version is worse than any,
- or remove FF engine completely, without it portable version would work properly,

...or fix this bug finally, as well as -runextra bug, so I could finally use 2 working portable versions with the FF engine at the same time.

I'm using Avant for 8 years, I've been helping with the bugs, suggestions and translation, the working portable version is one of few features I need and it's the basic feature, so I can't understand why the other engine is more important than a bug fix of the FF engine - 3 incomplete engines are better than 2 complete engines?

Thank you, so the portable version bug has been fixed, finally, but how should I know that?? It's not listed in the changelog nor in the bug topic regarding that bug.
This problem is fixed, right?

Yes, thanks, but you should add this information to the changelog, I'm not sure how many users know about it except few mods and me.

For the others, here's the tip from bigC - big thanks again!
bigC wrote:FF stuff is stored in with your AB profile in the beta versions.

Make a folder called gecko in %appdata%/avant profiles/.default or wherever you moved that folder

Then copy the content of %appdata%/Mozilla/Avant to the gecko folder to recover the FF settings
If you don't have your FF settings and passwords in the new AB version, they are probably not lost, AB just created new in your AB install folder, to recover your old settings, close all AB installations and copy the FF settings from %appdata%/Mozilla/Avant (e.g.: C:\Users\Dreamer\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Avant) to your AB install folder (e.g.: D:\Programs\Avant Browser\profiles\.default\gecko). Backup both folders before deleting.
