Well, I finally caught Orca phoning home upon startup. I DESPISE a browser that does that, especially phoning home to that crap Google. :thumbdown:

That's all it takes for me to quit using and to uninstall this browser. I knew with all that dinging and chiming it was doing, as per my thread on sounds here, viewtopic.php?f=69&t=25616, it was doing something in the background I didn't want it to do.

Bummer, seems like an excellent browser other than those noises and it phoning home.

C-ya!!

Time to reinstall K-Meleon. :thumbup:

You can disable the Gecko engine safe browsing feature by setting the following values in about:config

browser.safebrowsing.enabled = false
browser.safebrowsing.malware.enabled = false
browser.safebrowsing.remoteLookups = false
browser.safebrowsing.dataProvider = -1

It has been discussed previously in the forum.
I tend to use this in the portable version to prevent downloads of the huge protection libraries.

There must be others in the non-initiate camp that don`t understand fully. Please advise thus:
I was`nt aware of Avant or Orca phoning home to Google on start-up nor am l sure where the term Safe Browsing enters the matter.
For sure l must re-read the old topic/posts but l must have missed the plot back then.

More info on Safe Browsing: Phishing and Malware Protection

Firefox 3 or later contains built-in Phishing and Malware Protection to help keep you safe online. These features will warn you when a page you visit has been reported as a Web Forgery of a legitimate site (sometimes called “phishing” pages) or as an Attack Site designed to harm your computer (otherwise known as malware).

The page contains full details of what is sent.

I mentioned the feature when trying to diagnose an old problem: Memory access error
