Re: An update to my dearest users (File > Save dialog box size)

In addition to my recent post which included a request for the "Organize Bookmarks" dialog box to be made resizable, I would dearly love for the File > Save... dialog box to be resizable too.

In comparison, it's quite bizarre that the "File > Save HTML..."" dialog box is resizable yet "File > Save..." is not!

I use both of these dialogs many times each day (using File > Save... mainly so I can store single-file MHT copies), and it is intensely irritating that:

(a) Due to the fixed size of File > Save... any long file names cannot be fully displayed, leading to typographical errors (what you can't see you tend to type erroneously); and

(b) Consider the following scenario: You alternate between "File > Save HTML" (making its dialog box bigger, so you can see all the subfolders in a folder or all the files in a subfolder or a long filename in the filename field) then use "File > Save as..." (getting a small, fixed-size dialog box). Then next time you want to use "File > Save HTML" again, but annoyingly you find that the dialog box has gone back to the minimum size again, so you have to increase its size again. And for me, that happens many times per day.

So while it may appear to be a small matter, it's one that decreases my productivity a lot, and that's the reason I'm asking for it.

With Firefox, the Save dialog box is resizable under all conditions. You have to install an add-on in order to save in MHT format, but once you've done that there's not the above hassle about the box always shrinking to minimum size.

By the way, I installed the latest Orca release yesterday, and it's looking good! But I noticed Orca doesn't have the ability to save pages in MHT format either, therefore (admittedly while in the wrong thread) I'll request that for Orca too.
Cheers, Tony.

I read at the Maxthon forum that they're planning on a browser that doesn't run on IE. Hum!
Something like Google Chrome i suppose.

Like the Mystery man said. Fixing existing bugs before going into a new browser would probably be better. If we end up with three browsers (like Maxthon), who's going to have time to make any serious improvements? #-o

The one thing i like most about Firefox's adblock plus extension is the fact that you're not left with an empty space whenever an ad is blocked.

-A better ETA of when (like say month) you expect 12 to be released at this point since it was expected out before the end of 2008 but that didn't happen.

-Instead of having to do paste and go by selecting from a drop down menu via a tiny arrow at the end of the url bar, have the option of a separate button that you simply click or even a right-click context menu option from anywhere in the url bar at the very least.

-When looking at the About Avant Browser window, include a link to report bugs like Maxthon has.

-Bring back the ability to click a tab once then click it again to alternate back and forth between the last visited tab. This helps when tabs are shifting around not near each other so one doesn't have to search around when there are dozens of tabs open.

-Finer control over window and tab diversion. Allow control over urls passed from external applications and also over links meant to open in a new window. ie) force those to open in their own separate window or in a new tab or the current tab. This is extremely helpful when I don't want my 100+ tab's to all be restored at once simply because a program I updated passed a url to my browser which I had closed down (many time's programs require ie to shut down anyhow). My computer will slow to a crawl every time I restore large sessions and I only try to restore them when neccessary.

This is a separate request but I see how the forums lock your post after a certain amount of time not allowing it to be edited. Well it would be nice to atleast be able to save the edits you were 'making' instead of just putting up a big sign 'you can't edit this post anymore' after clicking submit. At the very least I could just make another post if all I was doing was ADDING information and not trying to change what I had already written. Most modern forums I've been on have this functionality and i'd hope you guys would too.

-Avant options should be at the top of the Tools menu, not the bottom.

Simply, but it will NOT be simple....

In no order of importance for now:

1) Restore Text-size button
2) Restore groups
3) Tabs MUST be multi-threaded to stand any chance of AB 12 being usable
4) Give some attention to how JVM, JavaScript and Flash connect into and execute from AB
5) JavaScript execution must be improved as pertains to load AND execution speed
6) Give some added attention to stability problems
7) Locate a programming partner or best-friend who is interested in assisting one very good, but one very overworked, AB programmer with the workload and idea.

On second thought, item #3 is the imperative… without it there is no reason whatsoever to even produce a version 12.

About my previous Reply, above...

I stated:

"On second thought, item #3 is the imperative… without it there is no reason whatsoever to even produce a version 12."

Yes, a strong statement, but stop and think about it.... then lash out at me if you still wish to.

Ignore font styles if don't find font installed on PC, not show square symbols.

Such as this link: http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=25015

BASIC THINGS FIRST :

1. HELP FILE : A better detailed Help file would eliminate a lot of confusion.
- Version updates : please make up your mind how to update. (on top of current version
has the advantage of not loosing personal settings at each time one is updating)

2. SUICIDAL BEHAVIOUR
AB closes itself (or is closed by others) all too often without any apparent reason.

3. BOOKMARKS
Users might be happy to transfer easely folders between
- AB bookmarks data (bookmarks.dat)
- IE Favorites
- Groups

I would like AutoFill to work more like RoboForm and not only fill in login info but forms as well. I'd also like to see Romanian to English in the Translation tool since I access several Romanian sites and need to have them translated.
AXEMAN wrote:It would be nice if you can fix how avant doesnot work for some sites. I have one i need to be there so i had to download firefox just to get to one site. Avant always says opps we can't open this page make sure you are connected to the internet.
I agree. Version 11.7.21 was automatically downloaded and installed on my computer while I was away for a couple of days and when I returned several of the sites I regularly access came up with the same messages. I had to go back to using IE (which I detest) just for those sites.
