How Fast is Your Internet Connection?

Post by angeldust » Fri Mar 12, 2004 10:30 pm

Here is a site to clock your connection against your country/the world.
http://www.numion.com/ .
If you leave it Minimized while surfing you will get a better picture of really how fast your connection is, so go ahead and take the net for a spin.
I clocked at first try in Canada @
5591Bps/45Kbps against Canadian internet dialup.
4781Bps/38Kbps against the World internet dialup.

How did you do?
I'll update before I sign off in an edit.

World -- 39660Bps (317Kbps)
US -- 41859Bps (335Kbps)

396.2 Kbps according to Cnet Bandwidth Meter

Hmmm... that kinda' sucks for DSL. :(

*I had to disable AdSubtract to get the page to load.

As my country's not there and the vast majority of my surfing is on US sites, I tested for the States:

US: 1007/8
World: 779/6

Jesus &^%$ing... See what I suffer just to be here? That's rural dialup for you. Roll on broadband.

What really %*^%es me off is that the fiber/microwave trunk is less than ten miles away! There's massive overcapacity on the trunk but the last mile might as well be two cans and a string.

I wouldn't blame them.

(This is when I'm out in the country though. At my place in town, me and some of my neighbours are talking about gettng a 2Gb pipe in. (Not quite in your leaque SweetLou, but not too bad!) That has unlimited bandwidth for a flat rate, so of course I'll be hosting my own website, maybe setting up a local area WiFi network, all sorts of fun stuff!)

Sounds great. If and when I ever make it to Ireland, I'll have to drive by to steal some bandwidth and check on the forum. Need to go to Cork first though, that is where my mother's family is from. So, Cork, Galway then off to the Guinness factory! :D And if lucky, watch Ireland beat those damn limeys in Landsdowne Road.

No reflection on my potential speed achieved via multi-sourced p2p downloads, where full speed can be reached.
