Service Check phone calls

Post by Sara » Wed Apr 15, 2015 12:41 pm

I was awakened this morning by a call from a pleasant sounding lady from India who said she was calling to do a service check on my computer in advance of Windows 8. She said something about systems not working and wanted me to turn on my computer and then wanted me to start pushing keys, starting with the system buttons on the top left of my keyboaqrd (which I never use). At that point I woke up enough to realize that something odd was going on so I refused to follow her instructions and told her to send me a letter and in the meanwhile I'd check with Microsoft to see what is up and then I hung up on her. Anyone else experience this? What could she do if I'd done what she wanted? I use Vonage, so my phone and computer are one (sounds a bit otherwordly :?: ) . Once I wake up a bit more I'll check with MicroSoft, but I thought this crew might have some ideas--paranoid, I'm still asleep, whatever...... :wtf:

She was probably going to take you to your Event Viewer to show you the errors it had logged and explain that there were issues that were going to cause your computer to explode, your cat lose its hair, and Firefly get cancelled before filming a second seaso.... d'oh!

I wouldn't worry too much about using a VOIP phone, though, and being online at the same time.
