Criminal Society

Post by kudos » Fri Apr 30, 2010 10:12 am

This is a personal rant so please feel free to ignore it - I just wanted to get this off my chest.

---

My young son loves his bike. He got it not long ago as a present and rides it every time that we are together - rain or shine. We go everywhere on our bikes.

This week at school he is doing bicycle training ("bikeability"). He has thoroughly enjoyed it and is looking forward to getting his pass certificate.

Yesterday my mother (his grandmother) had to go into hospital for serious surgery. We left the bike at school securely locked with two locks at the school's bike shed - together with at least 30 other bikes. The school gates were locked and secure.

This morning - the final day of his bike training - his bike was gone. Stolen. Locks cut with a wire cutter. Other bikes untouched.

What kind of people do this kind of thing? A kid's bike. In a school playground. Last day of bikeability.

They must have surveyed and planned it. Heartless individuals.

The police don't care - no witnesses, no CCTV - they just took a report and told me that it would just be filed away. "Have a nice day".

The school say that it was left at our own risk and their insurance won't cover it.

My son was in tears. His prized possession. Gone.

We saved up for months to get it. He wants it back - not a replacement, but his bike. I have been unemployed now for a very long time and cannot afford to get him another one. Biking was our main form of transport. Especially now that the weather is finally starting to improve.

We had plans to go places, do things, all involving our bikes. But now those plans are all shattered instantly by the actions of those who care not of what effect it has on a child.

What kind of terrible people are out there.

---

Rant over - sorry for your time.

I'm sorry these things happened to you and your family.
I hope the best for your mother,
Stealing your your son's bike was an evil thing to do.
It would be nice if a local newspaper would print this.

But alas with national elections going on now I don't know.

Yes AXEMAN, I saw a video on tv; in New York City, where the thief unscrewed the pole and took the bike.(no disrespect toward New York City)

I loved my bicycle dearly when l was young. Many years ago prior to going on a bicycle holiday with a local youth club the organiser called one evening to talk to my parents, he left his bike outside for a few minutes and upon leaving discovered it stolen. Using my bike he searched the streets while my Dad and l searched using the car. We did not find it. The Police don`t care, a sad fact thesedays.
A stolen item won`t bring the thief any joy. As John Lennon sang: `You`ll get yours yet. However big you think you are`.
Please post if there is any news, Kudos.

Sorry to hear about that. There are many people that have no respect for others or their belongings. It's quite sad really.

When I was young, I was very fortunate with my bike. I almost never locked it up and it was never taken and I used to ride it everywhere.

Don't worry about ranting. If it makes you feel better, that's all that matters.

That ABSOLUTELY SUCKS, K. I'm very sorry this happened to your son. I've been out of work 21 months myself, so I know where you're coming from, my friend. I wouldn't place much hope in recovery of the stolen bicycle, but try to focus on good things... your son is fine, you're fine, and hopefully your mom will be fine, too.

This is a support forum for a piece of software and the general discussion area isn't a needed part of that.

I was unaware until now, that the General Discussion forum was not available to non registered readers, as the other avant forums are.

Was the forum developers thinking about spam? Although spamers could try to spam on any of our forums.

It's just an extra for registered users. It shouldn't be a main attraction for registering.
