Unwanted localization...

Post by Yi-Long » Fri Oct 30, 2009 12:39 am

Hi everyone. I'm from Holland, and this question has been bothering me for quite a while...

When you visit certain websites, like google.com, or youtube.com, you get re-directed to the google-page or youtube page from YOUR country. So I het a dutch google.com, and someone on France gets a french google.com.

Some will find that very helpfull... but I absolutely HATE it. When I type in google.COM, I want to go to google.com, thus the english version of the search engine, and NOT the dutch version! If I DID want the dutch version of the site, I would type in .nl at the end, instead of .com(!)

I know there's usually a button on the page to re-direct you back to the english version of the page (some sites don't even offer that option(!)), but obviously it's just very annoying.

-sigh-

So are there ANY sollutions to avoid this annoyance (besides me moving to the USA)!?
Is there any way Avant could include an option in it's browser that lets these websites know that I don't WANT to be redirected towards the local site!?

And am I alone with this annoyance, or are there more international users here who find this very annoying!?
