Gamers Depressed?

Post by darth » Tue Aug 18, 2009 10:46 pm

Article says the average age of gamers is 35, and that they are fat
and bummed.

Also, they are depressed. Could this be true?

I play a lot of checkers online. I do'nt know if the players I play against fits the profile in the article.

By the way the US Agency who made these findings in the article is Center for Desease Control(CDC).

It's in games on XP.

Also another route is programs files>msn gaming zone>chrzm.

Vista alas does not have checkers in games.

Fair warming the spanish and portugese take thier checkers quite serious. I win a few now and then with them, also lose some too.

I was a big fan of the online checkers in XP, and very disappointed not to see in in Vista. However it's back in Win7, and it's been improved.

Hate to break it to you but it IS a legal Chess move. It's called en-passant.

Doesn't make sense to me... Then why be able to move the pawn forward two spaces??

It's like I'm playing against a kid that's making new rules as he goes.

I think I'll just stick with checkers.

Are you a gamer though? Maybe it's not the "game playing" that makes a person depressed, maybe it's being fat and middle-aged. And just maybe, playing games happens to be something depressed people do to pass time. Makes sense that a depressed person would want to pass his/her time as quickly as possible, to forget about their problems, without having to think about their problems in the mean time.
The hypothesis was that video-game players have a higher body mass index — the measure of a person's weight in relation to their height
A more rational hypothesis is that middle-aged overweight people play a lot of video games. Rather than "video-game players are overweight". Seems to be a big difference imo. Infact, the survey sound like just plain propaganda to me.

Nah... if I'm depressed in any way, it ain't because of playing games. It's more likely due to the fact that I've been squeaking by on $800/month unemployment compensation and making up the deficit with credit card advances for the past year because I CAN'T FIND A F*CKING JOB! :(

Maybe they should do a study on the mental effects the government has on the public. Oh wait, that's like McDonalds doing a study on the effects the Big Mac has on someones cholesterol. Such studies might exist already, but most likely aren't released to the public if it won't benifit them. With these missing elements, a full study on the effects the Big Mac has on someone's health (instead of just the cholesterol) is only just half truth.

I guess we're going off topic?
I really like McDonalds (Especially their cheeseburgers But I'm seldomely going there probably due to lack of time.
I don't think that I'm overweight because I'm nearly not eating anything

My point is, maybe they have a study on the effects their cheeseburgers has on someone, that "proves" the hamburgers aren't going to make you overweight, then call this a "health study". But it seems to me that many times, with studies such as these, they might not always include the "bad parts" the health study might have shown like cholesterol. There's much more to a person's health than just their weight.

You're right though; I am getting off topic now, because I'm not sure if the "depressed gamers" "study" really applies to this or not.
