Been trying, Web Player

Post by ReleaseRoderick » Fri May 22, 2009 1:47 pm

Been trying allsorts here, the route is:
http://www.candlelight.nl(via Bookmarks>sub-folder)VideoLan(default player)>Open File >minimise VideoLan>close candlelight home page. All is fine and l can go on surfing. However, if l click on Link on Candlelight H/page to open http://www.100p.nl instead, it opens 100p station as a web-player not via VideoLan. Cannot surf without losing music. Same with BBC Radio 2 which needs Real Player.
I want it all via VideoLan. Is there hope........

In VideoLAN (I am using v0.9.9) go to Media >> Open Network... then enter the following URL's:

Radio 100% NL = http://player.100p.nl/livestream.asx

Candlelight Radio = http://www.candlelight.nl/Candlelight_playlist.m3u

BBC Radio 2 (my favourite!) = http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/realmedia/fmg2.ram

You can create VLC shortcuts for them so no need to do it through a browser.

Ah, that still works? It used to be very unreliable at one point. Thanks for the heads-up.

Not a bad result considering its me: Candlelight and 100p stream well, no loss.

= http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/realmedia/fmg2.ram loses stream after 1 minute and comes back like it has 2 streams one of which is playing backwards.

Maybe the Radio 2 stream is problematic if you are outside the UK - also sometime the VLC decoder fails and you may have to use another.

With the MMS stream, you need the full URl - it's very long:

Code: Select all

mms://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami/radio2/radio2_bb_live_eq1_sl0?BBC-UID=64fa21878010c8fae56c98e481472669a8f6550fb03041b4941fe406833ab9ba&SSO2-UID=
The others you requested - they are easy to find, usually in the page source:

Radio Caroline: http://www.lazygit.org/listen.asx

Solo Piano Radio: http://pianosolo.streamguys.net/live.m3u or http://azulweb.streamguys.com/pianosolo64k.asx

Scratch that URL. BBC Radio 2: mms://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami/radio2/radio2_bb_live_eq1_sl0

Also, I realised that I am using VLC 1.0.0-rc1 not 0.9.9 as I previously stated.

Thanks for all, kudos.
As is the way of the world, its just the Radio 2 stream l need now and then simply for Brian Mathews Sounds of the Sixties. I`ll try getting the info from the web-pages. Would`nt be surprised if the faulty steaming was an Auntie BBC ploy to make us d/load Real Player.

0.9.9 Grishenko is my VLC you have the beta rc1
Shortcuts and Playlist l`ll struggle with.
End now or i`ll get shifted to General Discussion.

I moved the topic here to "General Discussion" anyway.

Here's another URI for BBC Radio 2, but I'm pretty sure that it is UK only: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r2.asx

Their site states that only the RealMedia stream (rtsp://rmlive.bbc.co.uk/bbc-rbs/rmlive/ev7/live24/radio2/live/r2_dsat_g2.ra) is available elsewhere.

Have you tried another player?

No worries, grabbed it from Screamer Radio.I'm using KMPlayer mainly, but it opens fine in KMP or VLC.

I made a playlist in VLC with the radio stations mentioned above. It is attached to this post (zipped). Once unzipped, you should be able to double click it to open in VLC. In VLC do View >> Playlist (or CTRL+L) to open the playlist and select stations.

Thank you for the download link for VLC kudos, l cannot get it into the Playlist properly but then these things never work for me ever. Radio 2 must be the first one because VLC gives me an error msg whereas after that l can get 100p and Candlelight. Screamer Radio has the four main domestic stations shown but no luck there. Strange, when Screamer cannot get the stations l select it gives a reason within 4 seconds, not so with BBC 1/2/3/4. There`s something nasty going on here, l suspect a dirty little cartel here with RealPlayer.
World Service is loud and clear also BBC 6/7.
It would be nice if Mr Brian Matthews put his excellent Radio 2 Saturday prog out on Radio Caroline.

I have found a workaround for you to avoid using VLC which is causing you problems. There is a website that provides international links for Radio 2 shows. I am currently using it to enjoy yesterdays "Sounds of the Sixties". Here's a step-by-step for you:

- Download and install Real Alternative
- Download and install Media Player Classic
- Go to the BBC Radio 2 Listen Again page
- Find the show that you want to listen to - ie yesterday's show and download it
- Run your installed Media Player Classic then File >> Open File... >> open the downloaded show link

Hope it works for you.

Great! Thanks for confirming. Always happy to help a fellow 60's/70's fan.
The "Listen Again" page is very handy - helped myself too!
