This sucks. I just installed IE8 and now Avant takes twice as long to start up.

And why are the search submittal buttons at google.com so tiny? Is Google not prepared for IE8?... how lame.

I'm also so disappointed accelerators don't work in Avant. :(

Further, a german researcher hacked IE8 a few hours before MS offically launched final code for IE8. Researcher earned $5000 and Sony laptop for his efforts in the contest. See http://www.computerworld.com/action/art ... hm_ts_head.

Yea, but Safari and Firefox were also hacked. Not that 2, or in this case 3, wrongs make a right. I guess what I'm trying to say is that all, ALL, browsers have bugs.

BigC.. I wouldn't really blame Avant on the accelerators not working. You have to remember the only thing Avant uses is the engine. And I just installed RTM over RC1(without uninstalling RC1 first) and the speed of Avant starting up didnt really change..

EDIT: If anyone uses the IE version switcher Addon for Avant. There were some changes needed for it to work in RTM so you will need to go download it again. The download has been updated.

MS has made it so any browser that uses the Trident engine defaults to using the IE8 compatibility mode(so more or less IE7). You use that addon to allow Avant to use the IE8 Standards mode.

There is also a registry change that you can make to force Avant to always use IE8 Standards mode even if that particular site has designated that the browser should use compatibility mode like this forum does.
Just goto the same registry key that the addon changes and instead of 7000 or 8000 change it to 8888. Make sure that its a decimal value of 7000,8000, or 8888 not a hex value.

And no I cannot confirm that the buttons on google are small. They are the regular size for me.

I've not seen any information regarding the vulnerabilites that were exploited in IE8.
The main questions is...
Was IE running under the protected mode or not?

Thank you for keeping up with that addon. I haven't been paying attention to it lately.

abfan123, according to the article in my post, the vulnerabilites exploited were promptly handed over to MS. Infact, MS were standing there. Guess MS will kept it(them) close to the vest until they can rectify them.

I know that vulnerabilities details shouldn't be released before a patch is available, But imo, They could release some details such as whether it was exploited under the protected mode or not, What was the outcome etc.

Thanks Matt

I figured out the google issue... Apparently theres some incompatibility with custom visual styles & IE8. As a workaround I had to go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and unclick the option to Enable visual styles on buttons and controls in webpages.

Its a shame that Gmail hasnt been updated to work correctly with IE8. The buttons are a mess.

Have the same problem, but your work around hasn't worked for me. :(

Sorry, for some reason that workaround for the google buttons only works within IE, not in AB.

Anyways I decided to ditch 8 & went back to 7. Avant is now back to its speedy self. :D
