there's also

  • 1 x 1394a Firewire Port
  • 1 x eSATA Port

That price suits that setup pretty well if you ask me. There are no hard drives, no CD/DVD Burner/Reader, onboard video, no monitor, no OS, an outdated/old processor, and a cheap power supply. There are a lot of piece you would need to make it a complete system.

You said you have the OS, so you still need hard drives, CD/DVD Burner/Reader, and a monitor.

Well actually, on my first try. I could find a $299.99 Lenovo PC that comes with everything but a monitor.
Intel Pentium Dual Core E2140 processor
1GB of DDR2-667 memory
160GB SATA II hard drive
SATA DVDRW drive
Microsoft's Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel G33 Express chipset
Tigerdirect
So actually yours is really kinda expensive for what your getting addonsfan.

did you mean that it did have onboard video? because it has "ATI Radeon 3200 512MB Onboard Video", but maybe I'm not in circulation on what's "good" lately?
the 7.1 HD audio kinda caught my eye, but would it really make my little subwoofer sound any better? :P

anyways, maybe that one wasn't a good example, here's a better example.
"MSI K9N SLI-F Motherboard Socket AM2/AM2+ Barebone Kit - AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz OEM, 400GB SATA HD, 2GB DDR2 PC6400, ATX Mid-Tower Case, Clear Side, 500 Watt Power Supply"
this one is the one I'm deciding to buy, unless I can find better.

Have you ever thought of buying some Core 2 Duo laptop?
So that you'll have both good laptop when you're on the way and at home.
At home, Just connect it to a standard monitor and connect a wireless mouse/keyboard and it'll work exactly like a standard PC.

that's a good idea, but I would have to get used to the fact that all of my additions would have to be connected via USB. I was actually thinking about it, and I may do that if I can find one for a really good deal, with good specs that wouldn't need upgrades.

Statm1, addonsfan's example has more and faster ram, a faster CPU, and a better video card, but is also lacking the HDD and optical drive.

Addonsfan, your second example doesn't come with a video card.

Well, I doubt that you'll be able to find a decent Core 2 Duo laptop for less than about $750...
So yeah, A desktop PC is much cheaper, I guess...

I realized that... but check this out. eventually I could get two, if I ever wanted... it is starting to get a little pricey though...

I wanted to see if anyone would notice this:
Note: A CPU cooling fan is not included with this CPU. In order to safeguard your warranty and achieve optimum performance we recommend purchasing a new compatible cooling fan. Click Here for more info »
the total cost is eventually $559.97, but theres some $39.96 rebate for the computer and a $30 rebate for the video card.

I can find an alright one in my local Staples for about ranging from $450-$1200... but the laptops below $600-$700 aren't nearly good as a desktop I could get for the same price.
