Web Host & HTTP File server

Post by Circumlocutus » Mon May 19, 2008 12:13 am

I am using HFS from http://www.rejetto.com/hfs, a program which enables people to view and download files just by using their browser without the hassle of FTP.

Is there anything like it that I can install on my shared webhost?

As my family has its fair share of technophobes with computers. :)

My shared server already uses cPanel.

But I realized that I can FTP using explorer, and just use it like any other folder.

Use SSH (via PuTTY or WinSCP) instead of FTP if possible .....

... and for something a little more complete, try FreeNAS ;)

I used to use FreeNAS, a nice setup. :)

But I wanted to use the box as video store for my XBox360 & PS3, so at the time, converting it to Media Center was the only option.

The US Midwest is notorious for it's storms and power outages, so having the storage on my PC isn't the best solution so I am choosing to share some of my webspace for the purpose of storing my family's digital memories.

I just wanted to find a solution which the less technologically able can understand. and entering ftp://username:password@ftp.domain.ext into an explorer window (or creating a web place in that format) would appear to be the more simpler solution to that challenge.
