Some of life's lessons do have to be learned the hard way. I came close to alcohol poisonong in my college years--not an experience I ever wanted to repeat.

Feel better.

it wasn't all bad, since I did learn a lot from the expirience...
there was the guy with cancer, named John, who I shared a room with after leaving intensive care, and I swear I was more miserable than him when I first got there. the more I stayed with him and got to know him, the more I realized he was in a better mood, which actually made me feel a lot better. he was obviously in a lot of pain, and all I had was a few bruises and bruised ribs.

we did manage to cheer eachother up. when I woke up, I was still drunk with a B.A.L. of .18, which is when they moved me. I saw the nurse shaving John, and with out thinking I yelled, "NURSE! WILL YOU SHAVE ME TOOO?"
she said, "no sir, get some rest!"
so I say, "BUT YOU SHAVED THE GUY WITH CANCER!! WHY NOT ME?!???"

John started laughing so hard, he began to cough up flem. then I kinda did weird drunk chuckle, and that's when the nurse started laughing too.

just an FYI:

Glad you made it through it all & learnt something too.

Now as for the shaving, if I was your room mate I'd have come after you. He or the nurse could have laughed causing her to slip with the razor.

Welcome back.

Hello addonsfan, A little off topic and choosing my words carefully. In the U.S did you need a private health care plan or were you stabilised without delay? My question is in relation to a talk i had 2 days ago with an American citizen, now i merely seek a second viewpoint.

Addonsfan may have more info on this, As i inderstand, I believe under federal law a hosiptal cannot turn one away at emergency room. Does it happen?, perhaps. Stabllized without delay?, well guess we have all heard, of the very long waits at the emergency room. I stand corrected , if i am in error.

they do not turn you away, your bill is just $10,000 +
I have a health plan where I only need to pay 30%.
I do not live independantly yet, so my parents were stuck with it, fortunately that's not a problem for them.

what I do not like is the extra stuff I am required to do. now, I must do some metal health evaluation so they can make sure I didn't do it on purpose, which is stupid. and I must pay for that.

Thank you addsonfan. The case in question for me was a 3yr old knocked down by a drunk driver crossing a red light. The child was rushed to hospital. Bruised and shocked he was discharged when it was discovered the family had no medical insurance. The child is now 19 but with a mental age of 5.
My info comes from the father. And America is a big place, different things in different States perhaps.

This went Off Topic. Thank you to the Mods for allowing.

yes, it must depend on the state. the US is really greedy, I hate to say... some states have extreme ways to insure they get their money, while states like CA that has a high crime rate (mainly in LA) will bill you for almost anything against the law. I've been recieving a $50 bill in the mail for about a year now that I refuse to pay, because I ditched school a couple times. sometimes they're strict about getting their money and sometimes their not.

I just got back from a probation meeting, and he's making me go to rehab for alcohol, which will cost a couple G's. they have a lot of mandatory things after breaking the law, which almost always cost atleast $1000. but that all depends on the severity of what you did.

I plan on moving to Canada as soon as I live independantly, but I have some questions too. for one, I heard health plans are free, but does anyone know what the case is in an emergency? I never imagined a hospital would turn away a kid that got hit by a drunk driver, but I'm starting to think it's not so uncommon.

also, I heard if you need to see a doctor, then you'll have to wait for months. maybe people are taking advantage of the free checkups? idk...
