Any good file management systems for the web?

Does anyone know of a program I can use for a website that lets users upload & delete files using a web interface, but also allows you to FTP files to the same location? It would also have to have some sort of user access levels.

In my office, I use our fax/scanner/copier to FTP files to our web server so that our employees can get them from home without having to come into the office. Obviously, I don't want just anyone seeing our work, so everything is password protected. The access they have now is simply a folder with their name on it with no index file. Over time, I'll have to go in and delete the files we no longer need from previous days, weeks, months, etc.

Here is a summary of what I'd like:
  • Allows me to FTP the files
  • After FTPing the files, no further action is needed on my part
  • They can, at least, delete files through the browser.
  • Access controlled
  • Requires not that much more interaction that is currently needed, as I'm not the one that will always be doing this.
Most of what I have found doesn't support the FTP option because it uses some sort of database to track the files.

And, our host is using a Linux server. I'd appreciate any suggestions that anyone has.

If it hadn't been Linux, I'd have offered you a script I wrote for my old iHost service .... (doesn't touch FTP, but has everything else)

The FTP and the web deletion is essential. I need it for none-savvy computer users. Since the FTP is already set-up, they can just scan the documents as they would a regular fax.

It allows deletion via the web ;)

I have used Snif but it doesn't have any deletion or password protected options (as far as I know). To add deletion capabilities, it shouldn't be hard but password protecting was a challenge. I used JPMaster77's login script and integrated it with Snif. It worked quite well after fooling around with it a lot.

Basically you need something that will list files in a directory, control access, and allow deletion from web. Other than that you can just use a normal, separate FTP server application.

Mmm.. I could make it in PHP but it's a lot of work to get it all in there.

Well, there are PHP applications that will do this. Check out Hotscripts. I didn't mention it before, since I have never used any of these so I can't recommend one over another.
