Web site color problem

Post by preahkumpii » Sat Jan 12, 2008 5:48 pm

See this website:
http://www.piedmontguttersystems.com/files/home.html
I created this website and matched the colors exactly. Firefox and Opera render the colors correctly. However, IE7 and Avant render the colors incorrectly. I understand this could be a overlook on my part in some setting that I am yet unaware of. I thought I would mention the problem anyhow. Thanks.

Hi there Preahkumpii,
Since this problem also happens with IE, it's probably a problem with the (Trident) rendering engine, which both IE and Avant use.

That is what I guessed, but I thought worthy to mention anyhow. Thanks.

Avant Version 11 - Build 46, and Firefox renders the same look here. Very nice looking web site.

Maybe you could show us screenshots of the two so that we can see what you're seeing.

I looked at the site in FF as well as the current Avant and I see what you see. It's as if the colors are laid down in in the bottom half in panes--the upper half looks smooth to me. It's interesting that the greys are giving you trouble and the blue/purple section isn't. The pattern repeats on all of the pages. Is it possible it's a CSS issue?

I know little to nothing about web page design, but, even with the "errors" it's a very well done site.

Sara :)

Here is what I see in Firefox and Opera. Both render the site correctly. I made this site about a year ago and haven't touched it since, at all. So, it couldn't have changed. Also, I used Firefox to view the site before uploading it. I should have checked IE when I made it. Oh well, under the bridge now. I really don't understand why others see the problems in Firefox, and I don't. I am using Firefox v.2.0.0.11. I am running Vista also. The colors should match exactly. All the site is is a picture, cut up and placed, with a gradient background. The background matches exactly to the corresponding color in the shadow. I.e. when the shadow fades into the background, the two colors beside each other are exactly the same. I made sure of that. So, that leaves the problem remaining in the way a browser, or the shade a browser, renders particular colors. Apparently, the background is rendered slightly darker at the top and lighter at the bottom, since the colors are the same. Even so, Avant is still my easy choice! Thanks for the complements on the website.

The effect is subtle, but FF renders it smoothly. It's the Trident engine that's messing with it. If it's any comfort, I doubt many folks will even notice--we all tend to be more critical of our own work.

Hello,
It seems to be an IE "positioning" problem.
I'll try to look into it a bit later and maybe I'll find out how to make it work properly in IE.
I don't have Opera installed (And I'm NOT going to install it... I've dumped it from my PC & won't reinstall...Don't ask me why...), But I do have Firefox installed.
So I'll be able to test it on Firefox & IE.
I won't promise that I'll find a solution, But I'll try.

Secondary PC same as primary but with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate as the OS.

I don't have FireFox, so I couldn't view it from the Gecko (FireFox's rendering engine) point of view. I didn't notice there was anything wrong with the webpage until you showed me the FireFox version. I thought you designed it like that, and I thought it looked great. :)
