Can a virus steal your passwords?

About an hour ago my computer has been infected by a virus. The virus installed itself in the background while I was browsing the web with Avant Browser. I store my autofills locally.
Is it possible that my autofills have been stolen?

what was the virus called it can corrupt things like that if u think the virus took or coppied the best thing to do is change all your passwords.myself as i put the new password on a sheet of papper write the site and password then you will always have them. every virus does it's thing so i would say it sure can steall them.hope this helps you.

It was one of these scareware things, that keep telling you that you have a virus.
I have already called my bank and blocked my card.
I keep my passwords encrypted in onenote, just recently decided that I am too lazy to copy-paste every time I want to use one, so I put them in AvanB.
I am in the middle of decrypting my hard drive (true crypt), then I’ll copy my data using ubuntu and restore my windows.

I'm sure you will do a antimalware scan.

If I may, do a rootkit scan also.

I recomend the free utility Avenger. It has removed a rootkit from my machine sometime ago.

It was a scareware notice telling me I had malware on my machine, the only malware on my machine. was it.

The passwords that Avant stores are encrypted. In theory, they could have been stolen but they would be useless.
