The way favourites are saved on the last avant version

Post by Dr. Jekyll » Sat Mar 20, 2010 7:59 pm

I have upgraded from an older version to the last one. I have noticed that now, when I save a new favourite in an existing folder avant show me a list with all the folders and sub folder as a vertical list.

In my old version was showing just the folders and only after I was clicking on a specific folder it show the sub folder inside.

How can I get the old system back? :eh:

Before I was using Avant 11.0 build 46.

The old system was more practical for me that I have a lot of favourites divided in a couple of hundred of folders and sub folders

You can still have folders with nested subfolders - that has not changed.
Subfolders are shown with a + sign in front of the name.
You can create a new folder with the "New Folder..." button.
I personally have hundreds of bookmarks and my subfolders are nested about 6 or more deep.

If you are seeing something different then please post a screenshot.

Thanks Kudos, in the new system not only show the folders but also all the subfolders the list is quite long and is more complicated to save a new favourite in the right place.

In the old system only folders was showed and the subfoders was showed only after clicking a specific folders. In this way, all was much more compact and "clean"

Current 11.7 build 46 still works this way. Please check whether you're using IE favorite as your bookmarks. Go to Tools-> Avant Browser Options...->Miscellaneous and uncheck the last but one option Use IE favorites as Bookmarks.

It's a pity our browsers don't do anything to change IE's way in displaying favorites.

Until Avant 11.07 build 8 if I would like to save a new favourite I Avant show me just the folders and if a i need a subfolders I must click on the folders first.

With Avant 11.07 build 19 all folders and subfolders are show at once. I have more than 100 folders and ca. 500 sub folders. With the new system is more complicated to save a new favourite on the correct subfolders.

Is it possible to have the old system back? :eh:

If you are in IE Favourites mode then afaik the dialog you are seeing is generated by the version of Internet Explorer on your system. Avant just tells the system to bring it up - it should be exactly the same in IE.

What you mean?

IE7 is always the same (I didn't update to IE8), I just update Avant and discover that all version after build 9 (included) show the favoutites expanded.

If I reinstall the build 18 I get the old favourites windows back.

I looked at builds 18 and 19 - build 18 used an old style dialog that emulated IE6 but build 19 started to use IE7/8's new style dialog.

A quick Google search reveals that you are not alone in hating the new dialog - there are lots of complaints.

I don't believe that there is a workaround in Avant.
