Opening liks in Outlook 2007

Post by Pamalia » Sun Mar 14, 2010 1:44 am

I am unable to open web links in Outlook 2007. Searched for answers on the net and it seems that you have to make IE the default browser which I don't want to do. Any clues?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have disabled the popup blocker but still get the same message when I click on the link -" This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". I don't have a network, only user of this computer so not sure what to do. Have lowered security settings to medium.

I have tried the suggestion about resetting programs but not exporting and importing the registry key as I don't really know what I'm doing with this. I have re-st IE as my default browser but that didn't solve it either - re-started my computer to make sure new settings were effected. Apart from importing a registry key, not sure how to resolve now. The suggestions also applied to IE6 or 7 adn I'm running IE8.

The only solution I could find was to use Firefox. I downloaded this and set as default browser adnpresto, no problem with opening links. Perhaps this is something that the Avant team could look at?

I'm having the same problem with Outlook 2003. I think this started perhaps a week ago, and not when I installed the lastest version of Avant, as far as I know. I tried the suggestions posted in the links in this thread (except the microsoft link, which was for IE6 and IE7 - I use IE8), but no luck. Popup and Add blockers are disabled on my system, as I use AdMuncher. Tried stopping AdMuncher but this didn't help either. Could it perhaps be due to some hotfix in IE8 of Outlook? Setting Chrome as the default browser did not solve the problem in my case.

What exactly happens when you click on a link when Avant is the default browser?
Does Outlook encode the web link url - can you provide an example?
Does IE8 work correctly? If so can you rename avant.exe to iexplore.exe and try again.

Hi kudos,

I got the same message Pamalia gets: "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." Nothing else seemed to happen after that.

However, I tried your suggestion and renamed Avant.exe to IExplore.exe, which seems to have fixed it.

Thank you, Arthur

Just a short update on this. Renaming Avant to IExplore was not a succes after all because many of the macros I wrote in MacroExpress for Avant wouldn't work anymore. I reinstalled the latest version of Avant (over the top of the existing installation) and went back into 'Avant Browser Options' to set Avant as the default browser. This has worked: clicking a link in Outlook 2003 now opens the webpage in Avant.
