Fuzzy Avant Windows

Post by ramseyle » Fri Feb 26, 2010 2:54 pm

Sometime in the last couple upgrades (I am on 11.7.46) my Avant browser has taken on a "fat" and "fuzzy" appearance. I am on Windows 7 Enterprise. I have several other browsers installed (Chrome, IE8, Firefox), and non of them have this problem. In my Avant windows, the scale of items appears wrong, and small text is almost unreadable.

I found an old post on this topic from many years ago, and it was closeed out. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Are you sure that Avant is different from Internet Explorer? Both should be the same.

I assume that the issue is the setting of ClearType. Here is an online version and an article on the ClearType tuner.

If that is not the issue can you post a screenshot.

Wow, those are some huge screengrabs! To my eyes it does look like ClearType issue but I'm not sure why both apps would be different - maybe it's a Win7 thing (I only have XP). Did you try to disable/tune ClearType as detailed in the previous links? Hopefully another Win7 user can chime in.

There is a ClearType tuner built into Windows 7. Maybe you can try that but I don't see why only one program would be affected. You can try it by searching for ClearType in the Start Menu.

I did the full ClearType tuneup. I have two monitors - one a wideaspect 23 inch and the other a square aspect 19 inch. Avant is fuzzy on both. Chrome, IE8 and Firefox look fine. I am saddened and puzzled.
Thanks for the interest.

Try to reset IE which may improve Avant: Close all browsers then go to Control Panel >> Internet Options >> Advanced >> Reset
