Post by pumpkin » Mon Nov 23, 2009 8:23 pm

After downloading the new version of Avant, 11.7 build 41, on our laptop, I am unable to get into Yahoo games, it locks up. I am able to get in on our desktop which is running 11.7 build 21.

Please provide a URL of the game and the version of Internet Explorer that you have installed - I assume that your profile is correct and you are still running XP.

It is any and all of the games. I got in one(1) time last night, but can't this morning. It just shows the hour glass and at the top it says "Avant not responding". I don't know how to tell or if I am running Internet Explorer, sorry.

Click on Start then Run
The Windows run dialog will appear
Into it type iexplore then press Enter
Internet Explorer will start
Hold down ALT and press H to show the help menu
Press A or click About Internet Explorer
The "About" screen will show the version number

Can you try if the games work with Internet Explorer - because Avant uses IE and if it does not work with IE then it won't work with Avant.

Also, consider upgrading to Internet Explorer 8 as IE7 is now old and the upgrade is quick and free.

Well, no such luck. Can't get into Yahoo with Internet Explorer either. Tried to download new IE version 8 and it locked up my computer.

Well that explains why Avant does not work. OK, for starters you should reset Internet Explorer:
Close all browsers and go to Control Panel >> Internet Options >> Advanced >> Reset

I assume that Yahoo! Games are Flash based, Am I right?
If yes, I'd try to reinstall the Flash Player.

As of IE8, At which step did it locked up your computer? Download or installation?
Try to choose during the installation to not download IE updates.
IE8(Pro), Microsoft Security Essentials
Main PC:

Secondary PC same as primary but with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate as the OS.

You were helping me with the "Yahoo Games" problem. I finally got the new version 8 of IE to load on my laptop. Now I get this message: avant.exe - Ordinal Not Found

Does Internet Explorer work correctly?
Is the message with Avant 11.7 build 21 or 41?

If IE doesn't work then (generally) neither will Avant. What problems (other than the previous message) are you having with IE? Please supply as much information as possible. Have you tried scanning your system for malware?

I just started getting the message after downloading IE8. I also tried re-downloading Avant and the message stopped for that day, but the next day(after computer was turned off) the message started again. I can get into Avant but I can't enter any passwords, answer emails, type anything any Google or Yahoo. I am using our desktop to converse with you now. No other problems that I know of. I did notice when downloading IE8 that it says it is: New Version of IE checks computer for malicious software. Maybe it thinks Avant is malicious software?

Internet Explorer needs to be repaired and fully working first. As you are using XP (according to your profile) I suggest using Dial-a-fix. Download and run it and click the check-all button (two green ticks) then click GO. You will get various error messages because it was primarily written for IE7 but just click OK to ignore them until the process is finished then restart your computer. Hope it works.
