"Importing" Bookmarks

Post by tarcoola » Tue Sep 09, 2008 6:49 am

I am installing software from an existing machine to a new machine.

I have 'exported' my substantial bookmarks file to a floppy and whilst I can find many other options I cannot find how to import from the floppy to the new machine.

Don't bother to ask "Why use a floppy?".

Thanks,

Robin Chapple

Just copy the Avant .default folder from your old PC to your Floppy [-o< and from their to your new PC. You will have all your bookmarks as well as your configuration transferred that way.

These are Horni's instructions to find the file:

Avant stored its files in your profile's directory. For the installed versions of Avant, you can find your configuration file by doing the following:

For Windows 2000 and XP, go to Start -> Run and type or paste %appdata%/Avant Profiles/. (This is generally at C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Windows user name>/Application Data/Avant Profiles/)
Online storage accounts store their information in a folder named after the e-mail address of the account
Your local account's information is stored in a folder named .default

For Windows Vista press the WinKey (it has a wavy flag on it) + R and type or paste %appdata%/Avant Profiles/. (This is generally at C:\Users\<Your Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Avant Profiles
Online storage accounts store their information in a folder named after the e-mail address of the account
Your local account's information is stored in a folder named .default

For the USB version of Avant, go to your Avant Browser folder and you'll see the .default folder containing your files.

Copying these folders will backup or allow you to move your Avant data to another location.

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7400 @ 2.80GHz; 4GB RAM; Nvidia GeForce 8600GT w. 280.26 driver

I also searched the new machine for the folder ".default" and it does not exist.

If you have an bookmarks.html file that you've exported, all you need to do is import it into Avant by choosing to import "Mozilla/Firefox" bookmarks.

I have imported "Bookmarks.html" into Avant and message box confirms "Import Successful" but they are in a Mozillaa folder not "ready to view".

Go to Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks and arrange them as you like.
