My AVANT is actually my default Browser.
But if I start my PC without AVANT and a Message from WLM (MSN) turn on with Info that I have some new Mails, and I click at it... then the IE opens this Site.

I must start AVANT at first, then it opens with AVANT.

Is there any Chance to fix this little "Problem"?

In my experience, there has never been a solution to get links from WLM to open up in Avant. I'm actually thinking its hardcoded into WLM somehow.. I have gotten mail to open up in the Windows Live Mail app. But thats still not Avant.

lol yep.... ms sticks by ms, it's a coded feature. soon WLM will also display the amount of new mails in outlook if your outlook and WLM address are the same.... it's all to do with ms integration.

Quite weird. :?
All the WLM links here have been opened in Avant even if Avant wasn't running when I've clicked those links.

Oh, Hmm
I thought you were talking about Windows Live Messenger...
But I've just tested Windows Live Mail and Avant is able to open links from the email messages without problems.

No no I meant.. Opening mail from within messenger can open in Windows Live Mail.. Once you have Windows Live Mail installed I havent had any luck opening up mail anywhere else except IE itself.

As for opening urls from within Windows Live Mail yes thats always opened up in Avant.

OK, So here is the issue:

For some reason, on my work computer, when I click on the "Open your email inbox" button on Windows Live Messenger it opens up my inbox in Internet Explorer if Avant is not currently open.

However, on my home computer this doesn't happen. It always uses Avant regardless of whether or not it's open.

I have the latest version of Internet Explorer, Avant Browser, and Windows Live Messenger on both computers. So why is my home computer behaving correctly, but my work computer is not? I was reading above that it could have something to do with having "Windows Live Mail" installed. So I checked my program list in the control panel on my home computer and the only programs that have "Windows Live" in the name are Windows Live Installer, Windows Live Messenger, and Windows Live Sign-In Assistant. When I go to work I'll check that computer for any additional "Windows Live" programs.

Additional information regarding the problem:
- I don't have anything called "Windows Live Mail" installed on my home computer.
- I don't think I have anything called "Windows Live Mail" installed on my work computer either.
- Avant Browser is set as my default browser on both machines.

If there's anything else I'll post it.

I really don't think the issue is that Microsoft is hard-coding Windows Live Messenger to always use Internet Explorer, because it uses Avant on my home computer just fine, and it uses Avant on my work computer when Avant is already open. If they hard-coded it to use Internet Explorer, it would probably be using it all the time.

A possible solution for my work computer would be if you could set it up so Avant never technically closes and just minimizes to the tray. However, the ability to do this seems to be disabled in the Avant Browser Options. The option that says "Minimize to system tray, when click [Close] button" is grayed out.

If someone could explain how to fix this issue I would much appreciate it.

dehron-samiel,
It seems like you're having 2 different issues.
You may want to check your Avant Browser's and WLM's versions and builds on both computers.
Also, What's the Windows versions on both PCs?

As of the minimizing issue, Avant Browser is probably in the Compact Style mode.
Compact Style has it's own button to minimize AB into the tray bar. It's the down arrow key located to the right of the close (X) button.
If you'd like to enable this option then you'll have to exit compact style by unchecking it under the View menu.

abfan123,

The main issue is the first one. In response to that: I have the latest version of Windows Live Messenger and Avant Browser on both machines. On my work computer I use Windows XP Professional and on my home computer I use Windows XP Media Center. There also is nothing called Windows Live Mail installed on either computer.

With regards to Compact Style: I like the look of Compact Style but I don't want to have to press that arrow every time I want to close Avant Browser (especially considering usually I close Avant Browser from the Windows Task Bar). What I really would like is if when you closed Avant it didn't actually close and just automatically went to the tray (which doesn't seem like it would be hard since so many other applications do that). This would be the simplest solution to the main issue with Windows Live Messenger not opening Avant Browser when you press the "Open your email inbox" button if Avant Browser isn't already open.

Just to make sure, You're using some web-based mail services as your default mail?

I'm not sure what you mean by web-based mail services. My default says "Windows Live Mail", which is odd because I don't have anything installed called Windows Live Mail. I just figured that meant that when you clicked on someone's email link on a website it would know to open up a web-page in Avant that went to Hotmail.

A web based email service is one you use by going to a website instead of using a program like Outlook, Outlook Express,Thunderbird, etc.

I use Hotmail (which evidently is a web-based email service). I've always had my default email set to Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Messenger never has had any issues opening Hotmail in Avant. But like I said, for some reason on my work computer it won't use Avant to open Hotmail, it uses Internet Explorer (unless of course Avant is already open).

Is this a solveable issue?
