Default browser in Vista Ultimate

Has anyone figured out how to convince Vista to let Avant be the default browser? I've tried everything I can think of including manually setting Avant as the default application for each file type and IE still muscles it's way back in.

arabideau... It's just like the rightclick, the tabs moving, the newtabsinbackground and couple of other bugs. It shows up only to some users. I too encountered this, but it disappeared after I reinstalled Windows... But I got it back when I reinstalled again. It's just random.

Avant doesn't show up as a choice in any of the default program menus on my pc. Wouldn't you know Opera & Firefox are there though. Any suggestions?

Thanks

ok here's the deal.

if its not showing then just try to click browse and then find avant.exe at avant's folder at program files. after that avant will now be your default program to open any htm. or html files! try opening an html file and avant will open it for you.

see my desktop icons. Counter-strike Manual is set to Avant.

i hope this will help.

I already did that with the *.htm and *.html files but my AB is still not my default browser. When I click on a link (in MSN Messenger, Trillian etc.) Vista open IE 7 =/

In version 11.0 I did not have this problem. So I think it can get fixed.
(Only when you click on the e-mail button in MSN Messenger it always open IE 7.. but this is not the problem)

This is a big problem for me since I search a lot from a tool in my taskbar. Since Avant isn't capable of becoming the default browser on Vista it's simply impossible for me to use it on a daily basis. All the suggestions in this thread are workarounds that doesn't solve the main problem which is having Avant becoming default for protocols, not only file types. Avant can not be set as th default browser like all other browsers can on Vista for some reason. Right now I have Opera, Maxthon and IE as options for default browser, but not Avant. This is just a matter of setting a few registry keys during install. I hope it can be fixed very soon. I search from my search bar and some other browser pops up. I hate that! I want Avant to take charge, but it can't.....

What you suggest takes care of the file type associations, but Avant is still not set at default for protocols, so it does not solve the problem. Avant need to set the registry keys the way Vista expects in this regard. All other browsers do. Thank you anyway for trying to help.

This has been confirmed as a bug here: http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic ... highlight=

Please post any further ideas in that thread.

I'm locking this one for now until we get a fix.

Sara :)
