Good old "blue skin"

Post by HarryP » Sun May 27, 2007 3:06 pm

Hi Skinmaker's,

I would like to use the new Avant 11.5 RC3, but my favourite skin "blue"
dosen't work with this new release. I tried to modify the original blue skin by the new skinmaker, but it didn't work perfect.
Please look to the attachment, there is a screenshot of the blue skin with
Avant 11.0 build 46. With the new Avant the Robo- and the Tab-toolbar didn't work for me.
What is the problem?
Could someone covert the old blue skin to the new one with this toolbars?
Thank you for your cooperation.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. You can't skin roboform, thats just its default look. And the other toolbar you circled is no longer present in 11.5, those buttons are now part of the window tabs bar.

it's nice that people actually want to stay with the skin i've made. :)

btw, from some reason the skin doesn't work anymore, at least for the 11.5 rc3 version of avant.
can anyone please tell me where can i find the newest version of the skin-maker, so that the skin would work for the newer versions of avant?
i tried those of the other posts, but it seems they are all the same, and they weren't able of making a working skin.

btw, i noticed that some new plugins are available for avant here . how can i install them?

Is the version you are working with pre compact view? If so you may have to run it thru an earlier version of Skin Maker first--find them here: http://avant.it-mate.co.uk/default.asp? ... in_Factory .

Make sure you give the second instance of SM another name.

I have no answer fro your second question (don't usee them) but someone will.

could you please be more specific?
i tried the latest version of the skin maker (ABSkin_3-0_RC3.exe ) , and i thought it was meant to be used for avant 11.5 rc3 . i also tried to use without the compact view , but it still doesn't work. does it have anything to do with the fact i use bmp file for the background ?

The new skin maker uses bmp and png files. What I did was open the old skin in the new skin maker, picked a vusual style (I like Crystal!) and tweaked a couple of colors. I then saved it to the skin folder with an updated name. How old is Blue and what version of Avant have you been using it on?

-quite old, but it worked not so long ago on the older releases.

about what i wrote of being more specific, i meant about the version of the skin maker, and the avant browser version you have.

I'm currently using RC3. What version are you using? If Blue is pre Version 11 try thiis Skin Maker first http://avant.it-mate.co.uk/dl/Avant_Bro ... sf_3-0.exe

I'm guessing that is the pre beta SM. Again, rename it or it will just replace the one on your desktop already. Once you've run Blue thru that one then use the new Maker.

The whole point is that skins have undergone several changes, not only in the current betas but before, so, if your skin is old "enough", it may not contain changes made already in previous skinmakers: the suggestion above was to open your skin with the previous skinmaker and save it under a different name; then open the latter with the current "beta" skinmaker and save with yet another name; then try to set it in the current Avant beta (RC3).

If you are going to have two versions of Skin Maker on your desktop the must have different names, like adding a 1 to one of the names before you save it to the desktop. Otherwise the second one will over write the first.

you guys(and Sara :D ), i have the background picture file.
now how can i make a totally new skin using the skins that are already exist in the avant skin folder, if they cannot even be loaded , saved as another files, and then be used by avant?
i don't need the old skin i made. just tell me how can i use the current skins to just change the background of them. that's what i've tried to do.i don't need too many versions of the skin-maker. i only need the working one for the latest avant version.

Then use the current Skin Maker to build the skin. You'll have the default buttons and your choice of visual styles, progress bar color, etc.. You'll probably want to check "stretch" for the background. Other than the number of buttons the Skin Maker pretty much works as it always has.

-but that's what i've being trying to do all along... it doesn't work, even if i don't change anything and just save it as a different name.

Weird, it works fine for me. In the zip archive of the Skin Maker there are also two default skin files: where did you put them? the best thing to do is to create a subfolder in the Avant folder and place there the whole content of the skinmaker zip. You may also have a corrupt download, did you redownload it?

Managed to make a black/silvery skin for latest version but had to convert png image to bmp before it would work.
I'd like to change the icon no.1 to Avant A same as in horno's yahoo skin but not sure how to do that :? Is that simple to do?
Thanks

I just tried stepping blue thru the skin makers since it's birth--can't do it, there have been too many changes.

As for the new Skin Maker, it installed an "old.skn" and a "default.skn" to my desktop along with itself. I'm afraid to move them in cas it makes the program inoperative.

UFO, if you are changing the background of the skin that shows in the SM (that's the default) and then saving the new skin to the Skin files under Avant, then it should work. If it doesn't clear it off your desktop and download it again.

BTW, I've always installed SM to my DeskTop--in the early days that's what we were told to do--and it still works--can it be installed under program Files now?
