Several issues in dark skins (from Daffy and Nederpietos)

Post by Dreamer » Tue Apr 03, 2007 12:28 am

First - I really like those skins, but there are several issues and therefore I can't use them fully, here is the list:

Daffy's black skin Black Dream:

- Several items are in black (unreadable on black background) - e.g. ▼ (back, forw., up... buttons), » (if not all bookmarks can be shown), "Internet" in status bar

- Grey text color at active tab is almost unreadable, it should be blue, the same as hover text color.

Nederpietos's black skins (all Ie7 for Vista Visual Theme skins):

- Several items are in black (unreadable on black background) - e.g. ▼ (back, forw., up... buttons), Bookmarks bar and menu items, » (if not all bookmarks can be shown) - all hover only, "Internet" in status bar and » just downwards (if few system buttons are disabled, it's visible) - always

- Blue hover color at tabs is too dark, it's unreadable

- Up button and small search buttons (search the current site, search the next occurence, highlight) and Copy from floating toolbar are default, not skinned

Both:

- Shading issue - it's more Skin Factory / general skins issue, because if some bars are moved, shading is broken, I can fix it, but it's not easy and I can fix it in skin from Daffy only, since I can't open skins from Nederpietos (more below)

- Some large icons are missing

I'd do some changes by myself, but I'd like to do some changes and I can't open any skin from Nederpietos in the Skin Factory (I tried v2.0 and v3.0).

Perhaps I'll create also some screenshots later.

Nederpietos, Daffy, could you please try to fix those issues?

Thank you!
Dreamer

Hi Dreamer. :)

I am not sure its possible for me to change the black items. But if it is,
please someone tell me how to do it.

Regarding the grey text color. My text color is blue. The active tab is grey.

The textcolor is my choice. The active tab color, is in the "default" skins,
that is in the skinmaker.
You can change both in the skinmaker.

BTW. How goes with skinmaking?

Hi Daffy,

black items can be changed, check the Ie7 for Vista Visual Theme skin. It's OK there, just on hover it's wrong - but you're using other background hover color, so it would be fine.
Regarding the grey text color. My text color is blue. The active tab is grey.
Strange, perhaps it's Windows theme related, check my screenshot, but your blue could be a bit darker too IMHO.

One more thing, Go button it too bright, it looks a bit odd.

Bad, no time, no icons and creating new is too difficult. That's why I've started this topic, I hope also Nederpietos try to fix his skins, since they are very nice, but unusable due to some issues and inability to edit those skins (shading issue).

Thanks Daffy for all your work, hope you'll create also some new black skin(s) in the future.

Dreamer, I'm kindly "hijacking" your thread for a moment ;-) since there's another issue in dark skins you don't seem to mention... the separators and the 3D borders around the various toolbars, that remain light and are not so nice with dark skins. Has anybody succeeded in changing them someway (either coloring them or removing them) ? I believe there's nothing that can be done currently.

I will stick my neck out, and try to explain what I think
is an explanation to both questions.

When you open Avant skinmaker you get some choices,
regarding wich "basic" skin, you want to use as your building-
block to your new skin.
Image

This basic skin come with some features like color in tabs, special signs
and the seperators look.

If I open a black theme in the skinmaker and choose officeC as the basic
skin I will get this seperator
Image
And if I choose another I will get this
Image

Somehow this is also the case with speciel signs ( I belive )

My best advice for your both is to open your skins with the skinmaker and
try to find something that you like. Then save it in avant, but rename it
like "black try ver1" or something. It gives you a change to go back if you
regret the changes.

Best regards Daffy.

BTW.
Dreamer.
Regarding your color is grey and not blue.
It comes to my mind that sometimes when you shift betwin skins in your
browser, avant dont seem to discard all off the old skins features.
It will correct it self, if you choose the skin you want, two times.
Skins > "your choice" > times two.
Then it should be corrected.

I have been playing a little around.

If you use Nexos6 it will give you this
Image

Note that speciel signs is blue but the highlite becomes black.
And there are some other stuff that changes to.'
Its a matter off what you like.

Daffy - I tried, but it's still the same.

robc - I know aboout that, it looks that some real support for dark skins is needed, there are too many issues. :(

Actually, not for "dark" but for "non-light" or "non-grey" skins if I may call them like that  Let's hope some new version will allow much deeper skinning.
