Post by daffy » Sun Feb 11, 2007 7:56 pm

Not much happening in here :)
Is´nt any other but me, making skins?

Anyway... I am still using all of my time to do this
skinmaking, and this is the newest one.
Actually, I find this to be my best. Its nice and crisp.
Hope you will enjoy it too!!

Image

I am starting to run out of ideas. So maybe I will take a
break for a while.

See you all, some time later :)

Horay!!! I finally got to appprove a skin! (Others keep beating me to it  ) I got the "No such user exists message" that has been mentioned in another thread, I believe, but the skin is there when you list the complete skins. It's not on the Index page yet---maybe the server has to update?

1. What about black background version?

2. I like the glassy vista style, e.g. this one is nice, but there's an ugly default "Up" button, also "new window" and "re-open last closed" buttons are quite similar, the second could be more intuitive, also few other buttons are old/default.

Due to my pour english, you have to point out, what you are looking fore.
Ex. Number 1 from left is ok i presume, and number 2. Number 3 is default, and you want me to cange it. But to what. What about number 5, is that ok.
And so on :) Do you want a mix betwin this and twista icons.?

It's just an example, I use that skin, I like such a style, but some buttons (e.g. a third one) are not "skinned' - default.

I don't want you to change it, since it's probably not possible, I have asked author of that skin, in the forum - without reply. Perhaps just the first button could be rotated 45° right and this could be used, but I think just author of that skin can change it.

Please just try the buttons from Ie7 Alike skin with black background, then you could try to find other glassy vista buttons and make white and black version.

Thank you.

To the best of my knowledge none of our skins are copywrited and many of us, myself included, have made changes in others' skins for their own use. If such a skin is posted, the credit should be given to the original author and the specific changes noted, as I did with my variation of Horanakapapolis' Yahoo! skin. Also, when icon sets are "ported" the original creator should be consulted as a matter of courtesy (if possible), and always be given credit in the notes.

If anyone disagrees with this policy let's discuss it further.

First. Its not possible to open a downloaded skin in AB skinmaker. At least
I cant do it.
Second. Its fairly easy to copy a icon from any skin and then save in to the skinmaker and then save as your one. Then I can modify it.
But that means, that I have to copy every sincle icon from an open browser, then modify them, save them in a "new" skin, and then upload the skin as a modified skin.
If I want to change one icon in a downloaded skin, I have to modify over 50 icons :(
Thats how Ie7-Alike is done.

Black backgrounds is hard to do, because off the way the skinmaker is
working. You cant change one toolbar at the time. It has to be all off them
at once. This means that if you want to make that fading from grey to black, you have to follow the makers browsersettings. Else the fading will
"tilt" because off the different size in toolbars.

So........... :)

If you want me to do a black skin, I want to now how your browserwindow
looks like. I use this setting with statusbar in the buttom.

Image

You proberly use another setting.

But then again. Like this???? Its an example.
Image

Or what about this.
Image

The last one is no problem, because the fading is from left to right.
Actually. This is nice.

Somehow I think that this is more what you are looking fore.
Image

Something like " Blue Dot " but in a glossy stile. Am I right.
This is the default left and right from Ie7 and then my Ie7-Alike icons in
a blue glossy dot.

Maaannn
That was a lot off writing

The only problem you should have here is opening skins made with certain versions of Skin Factory. You can't open some older skins in newer Skin Factorys, but you can use the skin in Avant itself. (It's hard to keep track, too, because the version numbering of Skin Factory is all over the place. I don't have the versions here at my office, but Version 3's .x jumped back and forth at least once between releases.)

I'm completely lost as to what you're talking about here, but I've noticed that a lot of people don't set their backgrounds to Stretch. They leave them at Tile. I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but if you stretch your background, jumping from resolution to resolution shouldn't make much of a difference... as long as your fade is left to right/right to left. Up and down might be a problem if the skin is designed for a small fade and the user has fifteen toolbars all at the top. (Or a large fade and they only have one.)

By the way, it's nice to see someone enjoying the skinning. I'm a bit stodgy when it comes to my skins, but I've downloaded a few of yours.

Exatly up and down. Almost all black skins use fading from top to buttom
in every single toolbar. Thats the problem.
If only you could skin a single toolbar one at a time, or if the toolbars had the same size, it would be no problem.
Or am I missing something here :?
Image
If I use theese colors above, as a background, it will repeat it self like this
Image
And so on.

But the toolbars are not alike in size.

Then i can build a background on my one costumed to my toolbars, like this ( example)
Image

But if another want to use the skin, he or she has to use same toolbar-settings as me, or else fading strech over the bars like this
Image

Is that right or am I wrong. :)

PS. Glad you like my skins.

The older skins have to be stepped thru the various versions of skin factory to be brought up to date. We had planned to have as many versions as possible on the download site, but so far that hasn't happened. Does anyone have the older versions? Particularly helpful would be the one that converted skins to the version that first introduced the compact style. That is the big sticking point between the older and newer skins as the interface changed completely. I find it interesting that they still work in the browser at all.

And belive me. I have counted the pixels in every bar. ( Booorrring  )

I cant remember the numbers, but even if you move the searchbar around, within two similar sized bars, it will change the number off pixels, up and down, with one or two pixels. ( I dont rember the numbers anymore ) This is enough to make the fading streching over the " borders"

Frustrating :D

Oh, and good evening Sara. :D ( I dont know your time, but here its
19.40 in the evening ) ( Cant figure out this am and pm stuff)

We haven't put the really old skins up yet. They are still down loadable from the GetSkinned site http://www.getskinned.org/modules.php?m ... ts&type=18 and are usable if you don't mind the missing icons for newer functions. Until we get our hands on the older Skin Factories/Makers we're stuck. Many of the skinner who made those skins are no longer with us--those that are have been encouraged to update their skins if they can--that is if they saved the original bmp files they used to make the skins in the first place.

Not really, I don't like if all icons look the 'same'.

Perhaps you could just change few default icons from this skin, if possible. And don't care about the "fading" problem, I know it's not perfect, I think it cannot be.

BTW, my toolbars look like this:

---title bar---

---button bar---address bar---search bar---

---bookmarks bar---menu bar---

---tab bar row 1---

---tab bar row 2---

---tab bar row 3---

...

---status bar---
