Just wondering if Avant is going away in favor of Orca?

I wouldn't have thought so, I hope not.

Re: Is Avant going away?
Well, now that there is an Orca browser... why support two?

Re: Is Avant going away?
Avant uses the Trident engine (as IE does) and Orca uses the Gecko layout engine (as Firefox does). Some people prefer the Trident engine (as I do) and others prefer the Gecko engine.
I think I've got that right!!

Re: Is Avant going away?
I prefer Orca (which BTW, has been around for years, it's not a new product). You can run plug-ins while still having the shell of Avant. Now that Robo runs on Orca, I will never go back to Avant.

Re: Is Avant going away?
No, Avant isn't going anywhere. As a matter of fact, the developer has been hard at work on a brand spanking new version... Avant 12.0

Thanks for the feedback. Glad to hear it. My wife won't use anything else.

Re: Is Avant going away?
Not only is Avant not going anywhere.. Avant is going to be listed on the Windows Ballot screen on new computers in all 30 countries of the EU as a choice of which browser to install. Check out the post on the Avant Force blog, http://blog.avantforce.com.

Re: Is Avant going away?
I do agree there should provide choice for others to select what is their preference. Both Avant and Orca co-exist are no problem at all...

Re: Is Avant going away?
Honestly I think it would be smart if the roadmap for Anderson's web browsers went the way of Maxthon 3, by combining Trident and Gecko into one browser and using whichever best suits the webpage. There is no reason to have bias over one engine or the other aside from performance and or compatibility so the solution Maxthon 3 presents is ideal for the present day.

Re: Is Avant going away?
I haven't played with Maxthon 3 in a few months but I thought they combined Trident and Webkit not Gecko. But in any case Anderson said once several years ago that he was thinking about the possibilities of combining the engines into one browser but I doubt he will.

Re: Is Avant going away?
Yes its Trident+Webkit but the idea is still the same. Anyhow it's just food for thought. It's too bad Anderson doesn't post hardly around these parts anymore just to hear his ideas, feedback and what else he's up to.

Likely after Avant 12 is released which is to say, "when it's done."

Re: Is Avant going away?
When will that most likely be Andre? It is bug heaven on Avant (and Orca), but I love the concept so much. Thank you! I use all the right stuff with no add ons at all, no taskbar icon use, and no nuthin. Just a good virus cleaner, defragmenter and spyware cleaner. Is it the ybrowser that is the problem Andre, more than anything? Best regards for a fine weekend.André wrote:Likely after Avant 12 is released which is to say, "when it's done."

Re: Is Avant going away?
Actually the latest plan is for the gecko engine to be integrated with Avant 12(2011) and no more Orca browser. Read here, http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=28680
