Orca only allows 'save as' for .torrent file type

Post by Kryz » Sat Sep 26, 2009 10:02 am

I try to open a .torrent file by clicking on it, but Orca only gives me the option to save the file. I set the about:config option browser.helperApps.alwaysAsk.force to true, but this didn't help. How can this be fixed? Am I missing an option somewhere?

Firstly, I couldn't install this application. Is it the same as this one:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10902

That I could install. However, it didn't work, I still only get the save dialogue for .torrent files.

It works perfectly for me. After installing OpenDownload 1.0.1 from my link, I get the "Open with" options as well as to save. See this tip to install it.

This all didn't help me very much, sadly. I think I understand the problem a bit better now though. This first started occurring after I removed Azureus and installed uTorrent instead. The thing is, that Orca still says 'Azureus download' when I try to open a .torrent file. So there's just something wrong with the mimetype settings. Thing is, I can't find how to fix this. Any ideas?

In uTorrent try Options -> Preferences -> General -> Asociate with .torrent files.

That won't work - this is already set (buttons are greyed out), and uTorrent checks at startup for changes. The only way to fix this is to edit the mime-type settings in Orca.

The OpenDownload extension works perfectly for me in Orca, but if you want to tweak MIME application settings manually, then browse to chrome://browser/content/preferences/preferences.xul then select "Applications"

I know, so you said, but it didn't for me. I guess the root cause of your problem was different than mine.

Hah, there we go. That allowed me to fix it directly. Thanks!

Glad that it worked, eventually. Thanks for confirming.
