Popup Blocker not working well...

Post by ccdesan » Mon Apr 27, 2009 3:55 pm

New forumite here.

I recently switched from Firefox 3 because of sluggishness issues - using Orca is like coming back to life, not only for my browser but for my entire system. I love it!

While Orca's ad-blocker and popup blocker seem to work in most instances, it's not consistent. For example, if I visit http://www.earlyamerica.com/earlyameric ... stitution/, I get a constant stream of annoying popups that I can't seem to block. Other sites have similar popups that defy Orca. #-o

Any ideas? Many TIA.

Welcome aboard!

Do you have the popup blocker currently enabled (Tools >> Block Unwanted Pop-up Pages)? My installed copy of Orca managed to block popups correctly from that site with its default setup.

You can add rules in Tools >> Orca Browser Options... >> AD Blocker

Also to extend Orca's blockers you can use the excellent Firefox extension AdBlock Plus within Orca.

To manage installed extensions go to Tools >> Mozilla Addons >> Extensions

This answer has given me some useful info. I confess I'm not entirely sure what Orca is... if it's an entirely new browser, or an overlay for Firefox, or what... I just know it works a whole lot better.

I'll take what you've given me and implement it to the max. If I'm still having problems, I'll come back. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Image

Orca uses the same rendering engine (the piece that turns the webpage into a human readable format) as Firefox so it's the same underlying technology but a different GUI (graphical user interface).

Although not mentioned yet, Orca is a gecko based browser... For more info, see:
