Tab crash

Post by MysteryFCM » Mon Jun 14, 2010 4:21 pm

Tab crashed whilst loading this one, and caused one of the other tabs to crash at the same time (other tab wasn't loading anything, site was already loaded > 50 mins earlier);

Looks like that's how it has been designed to work, namely, if you have say 30 tabs open you'll only see maybe 10 instances of avantab.exe but each of those instances will be supporting a couple of tabs -- and randomly selected, apparently! So if one tab does crash, then you'll lose all those (randomly selected?) other tabs attached to that particular avantab.exe instance.

Not sure if I like this design too much, I reckon ti would be better if groups of two or three web pages in should be select IN SEQUENCE to be attached to an avantab/exe task instance, so that if one crashes then at least it's the other recently-loaded web pages that crash with it. Clear as mud?

But that's still considerably better than ALL the tabs crashing (the entire Avant Browser outer containing window), is it not?

It's not better unfortunately, as I've seen a couple of instances of a tab crashing, causing the entire avant.exe process to crash regardless (i.e. after asking it to reload the tab, and after asking it to close the affected tab). Tabs crashing also invariably cause instability from thereon aswell (though that's sporadic so far, so very difficult to reproduce and pin down).
