Something went wrong with this webpage, to continue please..

Post by pcs800 » Sat Jun 12, 2010 2:39 pm

Something went wrong with this webpage, to continue please click the refresh button or you can just close this page.

This is what I get after installing the new version of AB, any page, home page whatever, they all do it. So far it's only happened on one computer (this one, I am in IE8 now).

Has anyone experienced this or know if a fix?

With 79 posts, you might consider filling in your profile so you don't have to be asked what version of Windows you're using.

What version of Windows are you using?

I've gotten seen that error once, but only one one tab. The rest of Avant froze after that and I had to restart, though. I'm guessing that it's new behavior caused by the avanttab.exe executable.

You might try a complete uninstall, reboot, and re-install using the Run as administrator option. I doubt that will fix it, but it will rule out a lot of suggestions.

Also, what security software are you running?

This particular machine runs sygate firewall on XP pro. Avast antivirus and that's it.
I have disable both with no change in result.
Yeah I would fill in my details accept that I am always on a different computer, I have10+ pc's I use avant on. With that many, I did donate money at one point to help keep development moving along nicely.

It's normal. The information tells that the browser has problem to render the page. In 11.7, pages like these may freeze the whole browser, but in avant 2010 they only crash themselves and the browser intact.

Avant Version; System(also point out it is a 32 or 64-bit OS);IE; Memory Size; CPU Speed;
Optional: Firewall; Graphics Card

For the problems hard to replay, could you add me into your MSN or Skype list if you use either of them? The advantage is that you can let us know the situation in the first place by making some screenshots, sharing your screen or explaining the specific problems more clearly when they happen.

It's normal? I have used AB for years on every computer I own, or have owned. Never have I encountered this. The comments above seem to blame the web page, as if it crashes browsers, but my home page on all pc's is google.com
There is definitely something about this new build that is an issue, not the web pages I am attempting to load.

I am not sure what you mean by "That wouldn't last long....Right?"
I am using orca because avant won't work. Hasn't worked since I installed the new build.
It would be disasterous for me if I am not able to use avant on this computer.

I installed todays new build, it made no difference. Is there any idea what the issue might be?

I did some more testing, it seems that avantab.exe starts when I start the browser, then it shuts down and I get the above mentioned issue.
I have disabled avast, uninstalled sygate with no change.
I can start avantab.exe from the program folder but it seems to do nothing, just sits in the sys tray running. When I start the browser, another instance of avantab.exe comes up (2 total since I started the first one manually) and then shuts down, and same issue occurs.

I don't know the cause, but your description of avantab's behavior seems to be normal. There's a brief description of its purpose in this post.

Although, when you start avantab on its own before opening Avant, you get an icon in the system tray?

Also, do you have any local pages you can open in the browser before anything else? Maybe that would rule out some stuff on the back-end.

Oops, I meant to say that I can see it running from task manager, not that it is the system tray.
Yes, I have many web sites that I have built, I tried opening a page from one of them and the same thing happens. It even happens if I open a new tab to about:blank

Well yeah... I meant for you to hang around for awhile, become a member of the staff, and then read that post in the staff forum!

Geez... some people are just so clueless. :wtf:

;) Oops... sorry

Essentially, from what I understand avantab is only supposed to be created for each tab up to 5 or so. After that, additional tab processes get added to one of the already running 5 or avantab instances. Therefore, Avant itself isn't supposed to crash, but rather the corresponding avantab to whichever tab is having the problem. (And, if more than 5 or so tabs are open, any tab also running off of that same instance of avantab.)

Well that would eventually be a cool thing :) But for now, I am just a user.
Do you have a link for the previous build so I can have that until a fix is found? Or do you prefer I continue using orca so we can test on this machine?

Ok I am on my work computer today where the new avant works fine. I notice that avantab.exe shows up in task manager as it did on the other pc. But this one doesn't close, avantab.exe stays running as opposed to the immediate closing it does on the other computer.
So it seems this is certainly related to avantab.exe

Since you have one computer which refuses to work correctly then I suggest that you try the old trick of resetting IE: Close all browsers then go to Control Panel >> Internet Options >> Advanced >> Reset
