Hi,

I'm using 11.7B35.
5-10 times a day Avant just freezes.
it happens with no reason (i'm working as a QA) when refreshing a page or moving from one tab to another.
using Vista and IE8.

thanks,
Yaniv

Please provide examples of some of the problem pages.
Does IE8 work correctly and without issue?
Do they have much Flash content - what is your Flash version?
Do you have any plugins enabled at Tools >> Avant Browser Options... >> Add-ons >> IE-Plugins?
Have you tried the latest release - build 36?

I have been having my AVANT browser freeze just like you for not apparent reason. I thought it might be related to Flash pages but it just happens randomly. I found this forum and I though I had posted to this but apparently I didnt. Anyway, the last time it frooze, I went into my TASK MANAGER, and I looked at the PROCESSES tab and just started to END PROCESS to all the high Memory exe files. Outlook was high so I killed that, still frozen. SKYPE was high so I killed that, still frozen. Then I say something called, and this is not it exactly, but it was something like MP4.exe. I killed that and immediately, the avant browser unfrooze. I went into MSCONFIG and turned off a whole bunch of startup programs that I didnt need. One of those must have been the MPE.exe thing, because I havent seen that excutable in the Task Manager yet and my avant browser has not frozen again since. I have run one full day without it freezing. I hope this helps someone else and I will update again. BTW, it was freezing about 15-20 days before.

This also occurs for me. You say your the fastest browser but yet I had problems. I'd open a new tab and it would freeze for 3 seconds or so, not sure if it's my system or because your browser is so powerful, I'm unsure.

UPDATE: It has been 6 days and my avant browser is no longer freezing. If you are experiencing freezing, look at my previous post and see if that is your same problem.

I too am on build 39 and it has been freezing several times per day. (Build 38 was fine).

I am pretty sure that everytime it has happened, I have just hit the big X to close Avant altogether, having spent some time going to various sites.

Yesterday I put on FreeRAM XP Pro to see if that helps. It does seem to be better ......

I am now on Build 41 and I just had to reboot my PC again as it was frozen. It is not happening as often as it had been, but if it does happen, it is happening when I try to exit Avant.

I had it set to clear everything EXCEPT cookies on exit.
I regularly use BBC online and the frontpage allows me to set up preferences - so I always see only what I want. Those choices are held in cookies.

The odd thing is, when I exited Avant, those cookies were deleted - even though cookies were precisely what were not supposed to be cleared. Of course, Avant had not actually exited, because when I tried to exit, the whole PC froze so I hit the reset button. This is the "normal" sequence of events.

So, on the assumption that it could be the clearing of records which is the problem, I have just changed Avant to clear NOTHING on exit.

If I learn anything, I shal report back ....

Isn’t there a log file that writes why Avant had a crash?
It happens to me twice a day, with different web page (or suddenly, with pages that I often visiting). I cannot find any systematic behaviour...
No update has solved this issue - Windows, IE or Avant.

Unfortunately, setting Avant NOT to clear any records on exit was not the solution.

I just had several sites up, hit the X in top right Avant window, and the whole PC froze again. Had to hit the PC reset button again.

As usual, it cleared cookies too, which I definitely did not want.

(My Kaspersky Internet Security was not running at the time, so, for me, that is now ruled out as a cause).

If anyone has any ideas I would be pleased to hear as I am getting fed up with having to reboot my PC.

Can you guys try with a clean configuration:

- Close Avant
- Go to the Windows "Run" box
- Type in: %appdata%
- An Explorer window will open
- Rename the folder Avant Profiles to Avant Profiles.bak
- Restart Avant

You can revert back to your old setup by renaming the folder back.

Kudos

I deleted the profile (first time I've started from scratch in 18 months).
This is the third day and no freezing so far. Looks as if your simple solution is working.
Thank you ! :)

It's back ....... yesterday, whilst using Avant, the PC froze twice. I rebooted and just carried on fine until the next time. It had lost the cookies again.
