Post by addonsfan » Sun Aug 05, 2007 1:19 pm

Are we allowed to upload addons requiring some third party services?

We haven't really discussed it, but I could go either way on it.

Where we'd probably run into a problem is when someone posted something that's not very secure, we warn them about it, they keep doing it, and after a reprieve, they makes jokes about it. I know... it's silly to think that might happen, huh?

If you have one, why don't you post it here until we've come an "official" decision. My thought is that we can allow it, but then the uploader will have to be prepared to hear people come on a critique the third party service. Some people just have different meanings on levels of security and privacy.

Well, I'm developing some "service" to save your favorite songs. I've successfully made a plugin to extract the current song/artist/album from AOL radio. It'll send the information through query string in a URL. So someone might be able to easily view the data, but it's not very sensitive information. I'll post the addon as soon as I add Yahoo! Radio, and other major radio stations. Maybe you know of some that I can add?
