This script adds a button on youtube pages to allow you to download them in mp4 format (suitable for ipod and plays on pc with VLC etc).
This gets you a better quality video that you can store on your pc.
I didnt come up with the script so i only take credit for plugging it into an autoexec addon for avant.

because this is very much a hack, when you click save target as you must specify that its an mp4.

Its an Avant addon. Click the attachment in his post to download it. Then go to Tools > Avant Browser Options > Add-ons > Add-ons to import it.

I know it's an add-on but before I install something on my system I like to know in more detail what it is and what kind of access it has on my system. Especially since sulpherdragon seem to have copied it from somewhere else. I found this link but I'm not sure that's the same:

You can read the script if you edit it in options. Even not understanding code, you can at least tell no sites are being accessed.

I don't really like auto-exec scripts, so I made an icon for it. I thought I'd upload it so others wouldn't have to do it. It just makes you have to click the button to get the link to appear.

What are the chances of allowing ICO files to be used as attached. There shouldn't be much of a security ridk with those, should there?

This is injected javascript. no activex or anything. i have it on autoexec without any problems, the code even checks to make sure your on youtube page before it does anything. Its perfectly safe. The name MP4Tube is one i gave it for avant, not its actual name, which i just gatherd as being "download videos from youtube as mp4".

In my own personal experience, everyone on this site have only contributed constructive things, not destructive. I would like to be rememberd for the same thing. Thanks.

Also thanks for helping tuck, i was in a hurry to get this up and i am a fan of auto execs, so that is my excuse. :)
Ive uploaded a button which unlocks the same feature on demand (with youtube icon).

Hey!

Is this addon working? how? I downloaded, installed, checked, its running, I also installed the mp4tube(Button). I have the youtube icon where the addons icons are, but the button does nothing. I open youtube, I start playing a video, and then? What should this do? Or where does the addon save the files?

If you've installed it correctly and are using the button here is how the screens should look.

After pressing the button on the toolbar, the information box to the left of the video will add a line giving you the option to save the video.

Thanks for the button, just what I needed, Save a lot of time from saving it as flv and then having to convert it.

MP4Tube 1.04

Updated 21/08/2009

I found a new version of the script on userscripts.org

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/25105

Ive replaced the code in MP4Tube to use this code.
All credit goes to the original author!
This is a really really nice script. Clean and robust.

I have edited it minimally to make sure it only executes on YouTube pages. Normally greasemonkey scripts are given extra parameters for that, apart from that, I haven't edited this script at all. Tested in Orca only.

Download Mp4Tube Button 1.04
