Forum Background [Avant Browser skin]

Post by Circumlocutus » Fri Jan 22, 2010 12:03 am

Is it possible to make the forum 'float' above the gradient so that only the forum scrolls.

I find it a little distracting to see the screen getting bright as a scroll down the pages.

Create a new addon; Tools > Avant Browser Options > Add-ons > Add-ons (tab) > Add
Name: any
Type: Auto-Execute Script
Content:
if (location.host == 'forum.avantbrowser.com') document.body.style.backgroundAttachment='fixed';

Nice, the script works with Orca too.

Such a shame that Circumlocutus is an OSX user and therefore cannot use it...

Apple. lol (sorry)
So I guessing he uses Firefox? I'm not too familiar with it, but isn't there a way to add some javascript that executes on runtime?

Well for Firefox, there is an extension called stylish and if you don't want to install another extension, it can be done in userContent.css. I'm not sure if you can do it in Safari. Either way, I'll point Matt to this thread and see what he thinks.

I realized you MIGHT need this script instead, for any other browser:
document.onload=function(){if (location.host == 'forum.avantbrowser.com') document.body.style.backgroundAttachment='fixed';}
...depending on how the browser is forced to run it

There are 2 problems with changing to a fixed background, one the headers background which blends in with the background would continue to scroll and two the point of this style is to look seamless between the main site and the board and making the background fixed would hurt the seamlessness.

I totally agree... though the points are moderately easy to fixed. Imo, it's just more trouble than it's worth. Find a way to use the script that I worked so hard on for a whole minute.

Well, the first one is really unfixable because there are no PSDs of the header so you can't exactly take the background out.

Don't you hate when you forget to keep the PSD files?

If I remember correctly.. The header came from a 3rd party that isn't actually staff or a member of the forum and they never gave us a PSD for it. So its not a matter of forgetting..

Statm's correct. The Avant Browser homepage was designed and created by someone else originally.

In the past I've had so many problems keeping psds that I now keep them in 3 separate places so I hopefully, never lose them.
