We are trying to get it to be hidden when you load the page and have to click the button for it to open. This is fine in Firefox and Opera. But, theres a js error in IE preventing it to work correctly. The author of the mod is going to try to fix it hopefully.

Code: Select all

	function toggle_quick_reply()
		{
			if (document.getElementById('quick_reply'))
			{
				if (document.getElementById('quick_reply').style.visibility == 'hidden')
				{
					document.getElementById('quick_reply').style.visibility = 'visible';
				}
				else
				{
					document.getElementById('quick_reply').style.visibility = 'hidden';
				}
			}
		}
I was able to verify that this works by adding it to an addon... unless you just changed something...

also, it might be more efficient to add to the text fields style tag "visibility:hidden;"

That isnt what was causing the js error though..

Its this part that is causing the error.. Saying that the "onload functions" is undefined.

onload_functions.push('toggle_quick_reply()');

why don't you just set the style tag's visibility to hidden for the quick_reply element?
also, this is the correct format for a dynamic onload property in IE:

Code: Select all

document.body.onload=function(){code};
this should work in both IE and FF.

also, this should work in this case:

Code: Select all

document.body.onload=toggle_quick_reply;
or

Code: Select all

document.body.onload=toggle_quick_reply();
IE can be picky with adding the "()" sometimes.

Changing it to the visibility tag breaks the collapse of the table when you click the quick reply button. It does make the table disappear but all the stuff under the table doesnt go back into place under the last post. If you understand what Im saying..

And your fix for the onload doesnt work. It has the same result. Any more suggestions would be appreciated. Im going to put it back to display instead of visibility.

well, you can make it a little less dynamic by adding it directly to the onload attribute for the body tag.
ex:
<body onload="toggle_quick_reply()">

Nice! I like being able to reply without waiting for another page to load. :)

EDIT: Is there any way to get the "New Topic" and "Post Reply" buttons above the Quick Reply box, instead of below it?

Alright. Well, for now, I have added the onload event to the body tag but I still think this should be fixed correctly, not with a hack of sorts.

Noyb, that was a design choice. If you use proSilver or subSilver, the buttons are on top of the quick reply, but they too might be moved.

Oh, okay. I'm using the "AB Holiday" theme right now, but after it's taken down I might switch to one of those other two styles.

I am a member of another phpBB powered forum which has a minimum post count before the rest of the forum is opened up.

Many newcomers were 'accidently' clicking the new topic button instead of the reply button, and as a response, many strange new threads were created.

I had suggested the removal of the new topic button at the bottom as it is easy to click on it instead.

Please change the quick reply button. On occassion when I click it, it opens a new tab with "javascript:toggle_quick_reply();" for the address bar. I think this can be fixed like this:
change

Code: Select all

<a href="javascript:toggle_quick_reply();">
to

Code: Select all

<a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="toggle_quick_reply();">
when ever I have this problem, refreshing the page usutally fixes it... which kinda defeats the purpose.

Actually, it should be fixed with the following code:

Code: Select all

<a href="{U_POST_REPLY_TOPIC}" onclick="toggle_quick_reply();return false;">
