Just a little bit darker/brighter colours? I just find that like the light green they don't show up to well on some forum backgrounds. (i.e. light blue)

If there is any rank image, users just check this and they don't care about any text around.
If you look at the two you describe side by side and you don't know what they mean, you wouldn't know what they mean even if they were one color and two different sizes.
But, if there would be just one progress bar (like here), it would be intuitive and must be clear to anyone!

No no no - absolutely! I said that already, it's a global 'thing'.

Edit: WebGuy, great reply, thanks. :)

I know what he means, change Board Style to "soft blue" - then it doesn't look so good, so I agree with "Just a little bit darker/brighter colours", but really just a little bit, otherwise it will be too dark on default board style.

BTW - DrDrrae - really great work, looks very, very good.

AvantGuard - thanks for hint, I like this new board style, I will be using it now. :)

It looks fine on my monitor. I guess it is because I have it tuned for high contrast while still looking natural.

Now, again, what about special ranks, not very important, but what do you think - with or without text?

I think it would be clear enough with orange and green colors - without text. More opinions?

I'm new here but if you don't mind me adding my 2 cents.

Although I like the new ranking graphics I think they just make the space overcrowded. Besides having the username, rank, rank (again) looks kind of weird.

I would suggest having the usernames for admins, moderators and support stuff in bold and different colors and underneath the rank. Example:

(for admin)

username
Administrator

(for moderator)

username
Moderator

(for support stuff)

username
Support Stuff

(for other users)

username
Rank

I think it looks simple and clear.

As for spammers and banned members... don't you close those accounts for 24, 48 hours or permanently? So I don't think it makes any difference since those members can't access the forum anyway. But you could add or replace their avatar with a red circle and the word "Banned" in the center of it. Or/and replace their rank with "Banned".

About new colors, better than first time, but I suggest these colors, more intuitive and exact:

username
Developer

username
Administrator

username
Moderator

username
Support Stuff

username
AvantGuard

username
Normal user

I know, orange doesn't look so good, but it's a standard, so it should be used, it could be a bit darker if possible. Developer color could be also dark yellow instead of red and AvantGuard could be dark grey, if possible.

And what about my progress bar suggestions??

I like the colors but... I would make the admin red since it's more noticeable and the developer maybe dark red.

AvantGuard in grey I think it would look good although there is no grey so I guess olive could be next choice. But I wouldn't have it in the same color as the rank text.

About your progress bar... although there is no reason for it since there is rank it's still nicely designed. But I think if the forum keeps it there should be a space between the rank and the bar. And then a space between the bar and the avatar. For example:

username
Rank

bar

avatar

Joined:
Posts:
Location:

The way it is now it looks overcrowded.

I would not add the bars for admin, mods, developer, stuff support and any other bar that has text on it which is the same with the rank since it looks kind of weird.

username
Rank
bar (with the rank on it... again)

Don't you think?

Grey wouldn't work as the board style "SubSilver" uses a few shades for backgrounds.

If the rank text is removed, the text could be moved to the "progress bar" aligned to whatever side has the most single color, I suppose. [edit] Scratch that "Avantic Deluxe" overflows the bar, so wouldn't work.

I suppose they could do away with the avatars, that would really unclutter things

Here are a few gray colors against the whiteish background.

gray text... can you see this? (808080)

gray text... can you see this? (707070)

gray text... can you see this? (606060)

gray text... can you see this? (505050)

I can see them all fine but I'd like to get other's opinions. Please check on both forum styles (SubSilver and SoftBlue).

I can see them, but the colors in use (before & during Hornakapopolis' modifications) all have a distinct contrast over the backgrounds, including the blues on BigBlue & SoftBlue themes.

(My sig, doesn't look like anything on the blue styles, but is fairly cool in SubSilver.)
