Avant Browser -.pngs?? Why?

Post by SponX » Sat Feb 05, 2005 1:17 am

Hey, I am hoping someone here will read this, its pretty important to me. I need to know why does Avant Browser NOT support .png images? If Fire Fox does, why do you guys not? Your supposed to be better then Fire Fox and IE, I love your guys browser, so can you please tell me why you do not support .png images, and will you at any time start to? It would be a great help to me, becasue I do a lot of graphic design that uses .png images for transparent backgrounds. And no, .gif's will not do it. .pngs have more quality in the images.

Thank you,
- Brian

Avant does support .png files. Just not completely. Avant is built on the IE engine, so how IE renders, Avant renders. We just have to wait until IE fully supports them.

So that will be prolly in a few years... How come you guys can not just get a kinda "mod" to support onto your browser and also IE's?

First of all, Avant is written by one man, Anderson Che. Only Anderson knows what he is going to be doing with Avant. We are just users, like you. We don't know anything more than you do.
Second, I am assuming that just making one browser is a lot of work for one man, so to develop a new engine by himself would be very difficult.

With a little extra coding, you can get .png support.
However, MicroSoft is not going to support it fully without a court order.

Here are a few of my .png sig images from some of my Distributed Computing Projects:
They carry "live" data summaries that are updated hourly.

I know that Maxthon has a plugin that was developed for it, that allows transparency in PNG files...

Maybe this can be adapted for Avant... with credit going to it's original author, of course :)
I'm running:

Win98SE / IE 6 SP1 / Latest Version of Maxthon / Latest Official Version of Avant

Yes, thats what he's saying. Theres special code that developers can use on their server to show .png's transparency in IE based browsers.
