Support for LostGoggles

Post by maikelnait » Sat Jan 22, 2005 11:38 pm

It would be great can use LostGoggles, which shows an snapshot of the web pages in each result of a google search.
LostGoggles is only avaible for IE:

Did you try this in Avant? AB is a shell browser that runs on top of IE so its possible it may work in Avant. Its not a toolbar is it?

I don't have time to try it now, but one thing you might try is to rename AB's executible from avant.exe to iexplore.exe. Sometimes this can jumpstart certain IE addons to work with Avant if they don't already.

Welcome to the forum by the way

This has been added to the Master Request/Suggestion List.

No it does not work in AB at this time. I have LostGoggles
installed, and that is about the only time I use IE anymore...

I would like to see Avant Browser support for LostGoggles Browser Helper Object too. LostGoggles is free, useful, unobtrusive, small, quick, really cool. Try it, you will use it :)

Thanks for your kind words about LostGoggles!

Good news: I'm writing this using Avant Browser with LostGoggles support :) It's going to take a little until I can release it, but I believe it's worth waiting ...

(Sorry, I can't hand out the beta  )

Andreas, this is really great news for fans of AB and LG :)
So, instead Avant Browser support for LostGoggles we can hope for LostGoggles support for Avant Browser?

That's right. It's already working here on my PC; so far, the new version works with all IE-based browsers I've tested (Avant, Maxthon, Slim, etc)

There are a couple more changes; it's no longer a Browser Helper Object (BHO), which has some advantages, like imporved stability, better compatibility with XP SP2, etc

I'll keep you posted :)

That's good news. only found out about lostgoogles because of this post, but I installed it and I find it a great addition the few times I use straight IE.

I've uploaded a beta of the new version:

http://lostgoggles.com/beta/LostGogglesSetup.exe

It's quite small, only ~400kb.

I've only tested it on my machine, and couple of friends have kindly tested it on theirs - so, I really appreciate your commens and bug reports :) Especially if anyone is running a non-XP version of Windows, I'm curious to hear about their experience...

Thank you!

Andreas

Really neat!--Can it be turned off if need be?

Sara :D

I finally had to uninstall. It's a good program, but most of the time you don't want all of that, just the list of links. Let me know when it get's an "off" switch and I'll redownload it.

Sara :(

Would the author of Lostgoggles consider making a version that works with Scroogle?

Anyone know if the new download of this is supposed to work with AB? This downloads' files are corrupted and the new one doesn't seem to work.

I used Lost Googles for a while on a slightly older version of AB and it worked just fine. I don't remember which version but it was fairly recent, 10.17 at least. It looks cool but I didn't find it particularly useful. Just my opinion of course

Can anyone else verify that it is compatible with Avant, now?

I'm able to confirm that the version found at the following url
http://lostgoggles.com/beta/LostGogglesSetup.exe
is compatible with the latest version of Avant Browser (10.2 b39) & worked fine with all the previous builds of 10.1 .
