Secret mode / Enable/Disable "History"

Post by Dreamer » Sun Jan 02, 2005 12:31 am

Edit:

Secret mode / Enable/Disable "History" - if enabled (e.g. with a toolbar button), don't save anything to history (but don't delete existing items), if disabled, save all from that time.

E.g.:

- go to page A, B, C
- press enable/disable history toolbar button (to disable)
- go to page D
- press enable/disable history toolbar button again (to enable)
- go to page E, F, G

= in this case, history would be saved for pages A, B, C and E, F, G only

Add this feature to 'menu bar' and create a toolbar button for it.

Added to the Master Request/Suggestion List as Don't add "History".

Thank you hornakapopolis :)

Many of us need sometimes to clear some history items, but you must clear all items! Why? Support this idea and choose what you want to save and what not! You'll never use 'Clear Records' feature again!

In the meantime, have you considered making a link to your History folder in Avant and doing it frm there, too?

The "official" thread for an in-house cookie manager can be found here.

Easier for me is to open another browser and clear history then (in 'another' browser).

I think, it wouldn't be too complicated to implement this feature and it's a better way like 'Clear Records' feature, what do you think?

(Of course I don't want to remove/replace 'Clear Records' feature)

I found a better name for this feature request, I'll rename my first post.

To any moderator (hornakapopolis?) - could you rename this request also in the "Master Request/Suggestion List" please? Current term - Don't add "History" - is not accurate.

New name is - Secret mode / Enable/Disable "History".

The name in the list isn't important. The purpose of the list is to give people a general idea of a requests to go check it out. The short phrase at the beginning is meant to group together a few terms to help easily locate it or remember. If we start changing everything constantly, it will lose it's point. If someone wants a feature giving them an option to add items to history or not, they'll find it as it is.

OK, but it's not accurate, main difference is that with this option would be possible to disable and enable history anytime, what about this...

Enable/Disable "History"

or

Enable/Disable adding to "History"

or

Pause "History"

E.g.:

- you want to go to secret or private site and you share your PC with other user(s), e.g. at work

- you want to find some information and you don't want to add any items from several sites to history

In addition to pausing additions in the History & Cookies, would it be possible to not permanently keep all of the downloaded temporary files during the "Secret Mode" session?

Temporarily not adding visited pages to history is nice, but if temporary internet files are kept, what's the use?
