Features To Implement Next

Post by crom » Sun Mar 21, 2004 6:06 pm

New thread, 'cause the most voted-for option of the old one (On-the-fly favorites editing) is now granted ;) in the new 9.02
If any of you would like to vote for an option which is not present, write it down, and we (mods) shall see whether to add it.

Also, mods can of course add links to the following section, "related threads"

Related threads:
Open "selected" links in new tabs
Support for IE Privacy and Cookie Handling
Unicode / IDN Support
Tooltip with the full URL for blocked popups/ads
Lock Favorites

The splitter bar is come in the next beta. I think that should be taken out. Anyone disagree?

I'm not sure anything should be taken out until these things are in release form. I think a large number of users avoid the betas.

I don't actually have a use for any of the things mentioned, so have had to vote for Unicode support as I feel that is an important one (esp with the growing trend of multi-language sites)

The on-the-fly bookmark editing is there, so off with the old option (what's in the beta will shortly be added in the "stable" release)

The splitter bar's not there in any beta yet...so one might still like to vote for it!
[edit]
right, Anderson says it's coming out...
http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic ... 5421#35421
Maybe in the next beta...so, off with its options as well!

If I die I have to go before Crom and he will ask me:
"What is the rule of Steel?"
And if I don't know it, he will cast me out of Valhalla and laugh at me!
That's Crom, strong on his mountain..

Don't forget that people who don't register can't see the Beta forum.

One more reason to register!
Anyway we can't keep old options just for people who come here once...they will see that the feature's been implemented and, if interested, they'll register and go to the beta section! ;)

I think this one should be added in splitter bars place,
http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic.php?t=2080

Anderson did say the splitter bar will come back so I see no need to vote for it. But whatever.

That's what I said editing my previous post (but maybe you hadn't seen the edited part yet)...Option gone, as you can see! ;)
I agree there's no need to keep voting for it!

Yahoo Companion.

How about the Yahoo Companion toolbar? Does it work again in the new beta or current release? I'm still using release 9.01 build 106 with the old companion bar.

Not to turn this into one of those subjects we pound into the ground, but personally, I think those options should be left in. Haven't there been times when errors have poped up again in the Betas that aren't in the stable releases? And, if people don't want to download a Beta, but rather an "official" release, they might get frustrated that more builds have been released without the addition of those features (1 at least since this post) We shouldn't assume that everyone wants to download a Beta (even though with Avant they're just as stable as the regular releases) Also, I sort of get the feeling that Mr. Che doesn't want everyone in the world tseting the Betas and that is why it's been stated to not link outside of this forum. That way, the people that are here regularly that he can interact with are the ones finding the issues and putting effort into finding the cause and solutions. (That's just my guess, I've never seen that stated by him... except the "don't link" thing)

Yes, I would definetely think support for IE privacy/security/cookies is the most important and urgent thing on that list.

I use third-party FTP and download managers anyway, and so do lots of other people.

How awesome that the Avant Browser author(s) poll the community for what to implement next!

Regarding the downloading of betas... it's nice to hear that the Avant Browser betas are generally as stable as the normal releases, but:

if I uninstall Avant Browser, restart my PC, and install the new beta (or any new version), as suggested, where will my settings be? Will they survive the switch to a new version, or will I have to re-do all my preferences and toolbar positions, etc.?

The user settings are in the ini file. More about that here:

http://myhome.iolfree.ie/~lightbulb/sam ... tTip3.html

It doesn't uninstall unless you do it deliberately.
