Bookmarks bar - in two rows

Post by mekd » Mon Apr 15, 2013 6:35 pm

As it is now Avant can display only one row of the Bookmarks bar and if there are more bookmarks they will appear in the drop down menu to the right.

It would be beneficial if one can choose to have the bookmarks bar in two rows so all the bookmarks from the right drop down menu would be visible.
Just the way Avant handles multi-row tabs.

Any chance?

How about using sidebar? View>Bookmarks.

This is not a good solution.
First it would limit the browsing space.
Secondly, it would display a long link of all the Links folder while i want to choose which link will appear in the Bookmarks bar.

My suggestion about having a custom toolbar that you could put anything in would also help with this request.

We need more flexibility, not less.

Doesn't the toolbar you want can add any buttons on it? But what he want is the whole bookmarks bar(all links)

I don't think he wants ALL the bookmarks to show in the Bookmarks Bar:
mekd wrote:i want to choose which link will appear in the Bookmarks bar.
He just wants the Bookmarks Bar to behave the same way the Tab Bar does: instead of an arrow at the end of the bar when there are more bookmark icons (buttons) than will fit, he wants the bar to automatically increase in height so that it can accommodate another row of bookmark buttons, and he wants it to continue to do this every time he fills a row.

As long as there's still a folder set as the root of the Bookmarks Bar, he could choose which links (bookmarks) would appear in the Bookmarks Bar, just as you do now.

While modifying the way the Bookmarks Bar works would be the best way to provide what he's asking for, the toolbar I requested would serve his purpose too, if you could add bookmark links to it. Whenever you filled up one custom toolbar with bookmark buttons, you could just create another custom toolbar below it and add the additional bookmarks to that one. It wouldn't be an ideal solutions since it wouldn't automatically start another row when all the space in it is consumed, but at least you could have more than one row of bookmark buttons.

My concept for the custom toolbar is that you could drag any object that Avant manages as part of the UI to it, either to move it there or to copy it there. This would include bookmark buttons, toolbar buttons from any toolbar, menus from the Menu Bar, Add-on buttons, etc.

You misunderstand. I meant all the links shown on bookmarks bar, not all bookmarks.I know what mekd want. Thanks for you explanation anyway.
The reason why I ask you is that I though the toolbar you want can add/drag only buttons on it not incluing links(while what mekd want is to show links ). But now I know links are included.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. It can be kind of confusing when everything is being translated back and forth.
