Bring back toolbar button customization

Post by hornakapopolis » Fri Feb 22, 2013 10:13 pm

Since it's an official release, I thought I'd finally ask for it.

I would like the buttons we have on the old skins to be available on the new skins. And, being able to sort/organize them would be nice.

Yeah. I use Print Preview constantly, which is the main reason I can't use the new skins. Not being able to move the main toolbar buttons is frustrating, but it doesn't at least remove actual functionality. Still, why go backwards?

There's so much functionality missing in the new skins that I'd have to quit using Avant if the old ones weren't still available. It's the same with IE, Firefox, and Chrome. Sure, there's a clean, fancy new interface, and less room is consumed by toolbars and other functional components, but it takes twice as long to do most things, because the controls to accomplish what you need to do are hidden or buried somewhere. I don't get it. Besides, if that's what I wanted, I could accomplish pretty much the same thing with the old skins by just disabling all the toolbars, the menus, the status bar, etc. Then it would be just as crippled as the new interface is. I realize it wouldn't be as pretty, but I don't use a browser or any other software because I like the appearance of the UI. I choose software for functionality, configurability, and ease of use. The new UI is a step backwards. It's like a shiny new Corvette with a Model T dashboard and controls.

I fully agree with mbrazil.

Also there should be a new skinmaker available as soon as possible, so users of the new interface can choose the background and icons they want for the the new look.

I don't think it's a step backwards. It's just a new design with concise interface. If you like the way it was, then use the old skins, we won't delete these skins.

Of course, this is just my personal opinion. If most of you hope the new interface has all the features under old skin. I will record it too.

I don't see the the minimize, restore, hide and close button in Avant 2013 using an old skin in full desktop mode. they were there in AB 2012.

Is this a bug or did Anderson mean it this way?

Also the the problem with the hidden taskbar is still not completely gone in beta 16.

You can test this in full desktop mode with an old skin and double click on an empty space on the tab bar. You will see that the tap that opens (my homepage in my case) has no focus and you will have to mouseclick on the screen first before you can let the hidden taskbar appear.

The problem with the hidden taskbar is fixed in THIS case, but i saw a new bug now. When you close that tab again that you had opened by double klicking on the tabbar, the UI stays behind the content. You have to klick the screen first then to let your UI appear. Also i saw in other cases the taskbar stays still hidden, but i can't reproduce it yet, so i will come back to that.

I have to take it back that it's fixed...sometimes it works, sometimes not.
Sometimes the UI and the taskbar stays both hidden and you only see content. It's hard to figure out when this all happens.

I'm so glad someone posted this topic. I had noticed that the ability to organize buttons on the UI had disappeared, and I was disappointed. Also, though, I noticed a bug related to this feature. When I do try to customize my buttons, they run off the side of the screen, without the option to view those that are not showing (such as a drop-down menu). Also, I like to have my search bar to the left of my buttons, but have noticed that the browser will not keep the layout consistent. When I close my browser and reopen it, I notice the buttons have moved to the left of the search bar. Please fix these two bugs and give us back the ability to organize buttons on the UI.

Based on its appearance (in the image), I suspect he's using Opal Glass.
