Need a "Send Shortcut to Desktop":

Post by MagicStarER » Fri Jun 05, 2009 9:01 pm

Avant Browser really needs this:

File>>Send>>Shortcut to Desktop

Like IE has?

It is important to be able to send a shortcut to important pages that you want to get to fast to the desktop.

Thank you!

You can drag any shortcut to the desktop (or any other folder)...

I'm sorry, I hate to sound so dumb, but can you tell me how to do that? I really need to be able to...

Thanks! :)

Err, ok... But please don't shoot me down for sounding pretentious:

- Click down (don't release) on a link such as this link
- Move (ie "drag") the mouse to your desktop
- Release the mouse button to "drop" the link and create the shortcut.

I tend to have Avant full-screen, so I drag, then (while mouse button still down) I tap the WinKey+D together to bring up the desktop, then drop. WinKey+D again will restore everything back.

Otherwise, if you have Windows Explorer open with a destination folder then drag the link to the taskbar icon where Windows Explorer is, wait a second and Windows Explorer will restore itself to the front, then drop the link onto the Explorer Window.

Out of interest, why not bookmark important pages? Among others are: CRTL+D or Bookmark >> New Bookmark

Hello,
What about the "Create Shortcut" item in the right click menu?
IE8(Pro), Microsoft Security Essentials

Secondary PC same as primary but with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate as the OS.

I guess that I misread the post, I thought that she wanted to save a shortcut of a link not the page.

OK...
What about the "Create Shortcut" item in the right click menu?
I am using IE 7. I don't have that in my right click menu.

What kudos says about dragging the link to the desktop sounds good to me. That should work.

Just one question.

Will that clicking and dragging work on an image link?

(OK, I just did that with the Avant logo link. Guess what - it worked, but it came out with just a little IE logo but with no name of the link. I had to click "rename" and write in the name of the shortcut. Is this maybe something Avant developers should look at?

That is very awesome, though, kudos. I really appreciate this. At least now I can get a shortcut to a link onto my desktop.

In answer to the question about why don't I use bookmarks all the time? I do graphics, build websites, write articles, am trying to write 2 books, and I have so many bookmarks, that it takes me forever to get through them, even though they are all organized by subject and categories... Some things I want to find quickly.

You have been really helpful. I really do appreciate it. Thanks! :)

It's only in the right click menu, when you right click somewhere on the page that's not on an image or on a link.
It's good for making a shrotcut for the current page, rather than for a link. You can also drag and drop the favicon, in the address bar, of the current page, if you prefer drag and drop for the current page.

Oh, you are right! :) When I right clicked on the link, I didn't get the "create shortcut".

And I didn't know I could drag the favicon either! Wow, thanks a lot!
