The only way to run Avant on a Mac would be through Parallels. Avant needs IE installed, which isn't supported on Mac, thus, you will probably never see a version of Avant for the Mac. There is, however, a very slight possibility of seeing Orca (Gecko based Avant) on a Mac.

I have a problem even worse than buying a Mac. I have dumped Micro$haft and switched to Linux(best move that I have ever made). But I dearly miss Avant and Orca. Is there any possibility that you could possible adapt Orca to Linux???

There is a very slight possibility of running Orca through Wine but I doubt it would work without a lot of effort. I highly reccomend Firefox or Opera on Linux, however.

Anderson is busy with developing Orca lately. I'm pretty sure he has no plan to make Avant compatible with MAC OS, but to make Orca compatible with Linux is considered.

if FireFox isn't required to install Orca, than probably not.
would be nice though, never even thought about it.

Produce a version for mac osx

Post by macmend » Mon Oct 20, 2008 8:48 am

There are a few browsers for OSX the inbuilt Safari...fast becoming the IE of Mac, the under used Opera, Firefox and its cut down version Camino.

But nothing like this.

Well... since Internet Explorer doesn't exist on the Mac, you will never see a version of Avant on the Mac. However, there is the absolute SLIGHTEST possibility of ever see a version of Orca on the Mac.

I am a recent Mac switcher and am pretty happy overall BUT I am dearly missing my stored bookmarks as I use Avant at work and would like to have a single set of bookmarks. Safari is hands-down the fastest browser I have ever used AND is available for Mac and PC...

Soooooo....

...if there is a IE-based version (Avant) and a Firefox-based version (Orca), would you folks entertain a Safari-based version?

Firefox is available for MAC, But it doesn't mean that Orca will work fine on MAC.
The developer most probably won't create a version of Avant or Orca for any other OS.
You may try to use an emulator, But I guess you won't be able to receive any official support or instruction.
IE8(Pro), Microsoft Security Essentials

Secondary PC same as primary but with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate as the OS.

Sorry, I did not mean to imply that having the browser on two platforms made it easier to port it, just perhaps more palatable. Though I guess that did not stop them from writing Avant for IE-only on Windows :/

PS: I thought a Linux version of Orca was rumored?

The developer is currently very busy developing Avant Browser 12.
I've never heard any official or unofficial words from the developer regarding other OS support.
DrDrrae (The forum's administrator) just said once that it's technically possible to create Orca for MAC.
But again, There's no official words from the developer.

Maybe you can try running Orca on OSX by using Wine - see their wiki
